2021 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah, Julian also lags a little on my draft rater, but still, he seems like a ridiculously high-floor guy to me. He's like a textbook example of a 3&D wing, which is such a popular archetype these days.

It is kind of position dependent in my view of them.

If you think both are SF's, it likes Justin more.

If you think Justin is a PF and Julian is a SF, they are pretty equally rated.

If they are different positions (Justin PF / Julian SF), Julian would be more valuable to me relative to NBA wing value.

I tend to lean SF on Justin, just purely based on a subjective look at his film. He moves really well, is agile, can play with the ball.....I think you at least try him there and use him as an inside out type wing.

I think it's a huge ceiling vs floor thing, which is funny because they're twins. If Julian gets reliable minutes somewhere, I think he could very easily sneak onto the All-Rookie 2nd team and have a nice long career as a 10-15ppg combo forward. But he's not especially athletic or creative with the ball, so I think that's kinda where his upside ends...just a nice steady 3rd-option offensive player (unless he turns out to be a *really* special shooter). Justin on the other hand showed flashes of dominating the game physically in a way that you'd expect a future star wing to dominate...but his 3-point shot is pretty iffy, and at 6'6" he has less margin for error defensively. I'd be pretty excited to get either of them if we happen to pick up a 2nd rounder.

So does the whole Gobert implosion change for anyone the way you value Mobley as a prospect?

He can provide rim protection while (projecting at least) to not being a liability against switches. Best of both worlds.

He can offer vertical pnr spacing and (once again projecting) some 3pt spacing too. Plus his passing will be huge from the position, and there is a chance for some face up game too.

He really needs the lower body strength to truly compete with brushing guys and take advantage of smallball centers, but even then he offers a lot of other things on offense.

He's most probably not a true number 1 guy, but the playoffs are showing he could be an elite piece for competing teams.

I am definitely warming up to Cade now. While not a great athlete, he has great physical potential with guard skills, will give him a ton of ways to score. He also has a great natural stroke which will only get better in the future. He also has top notch instincts and will be a great team defender using his elite strength to bully guys. I think he is hands down the best player in the draft now. Mobley would be nice in a Sexton led Cavs. It would definitely put Colin on the spot. No more losing kid.

Mobley is more mobile defensively but more important than that, he has a diverse offensive game. The issue with Gobert is that in the right matchup, he can be exploited on both sides of the ball and essentially be a zero factor, leaving you playing 4 on 5 on both sides

I gotta see evidence of this “elite strength.” Where can i find video of him finishing strong against a defender who at least vaguely resembles an NBA wing defender?

Say the Cavs drafted Mobley. Would they be able to find a trade to get into the late lottery with nance as the main piece? Or is it better to just hold onto them all until deadline

I think it makes more sense to try to offload any of our vets at the draft. I think the playoffs have been a shock to alot of teams and they will want to make moves to keep their players happy. The deadline may be too late because teams might fail and stars will demand a trade.

Assuming we project Mobley as a PF, I say just move Nance and Love at the draft if possible. Open those minutes up for him. I'm not sure either Love or Nance would be great mentors for someone playing the same position as them.

Generally agree. Nance is tough because I love him and that he loves CLE. I think his ideal role is a 6th man in the current NBA, to keep the mins and wear down and maximize his impact. Tbink lamar Odom. He is however out best asset at the moment.

I know there are teams interested in him but the destinations aren't obvious so it's even hard to figure out what we can get for him.

You have to think Atlanta will be looking to go all in now

Yeah that's what I meant too. As in there is a Mobley in this draft who is the opposite of Gobert's case. Maybe seeing the reigning DPOY exploited so hard increased the value package Mobley presents. For me it did a little, coz he could bring all the good Gobert does without the issues and also much more offense.
