OK, what the heck is a cement mixing slider?
a cement mixing slider.. is one that instead of dropping and turning inward to a LHH by a RHP ( two planes ).. it just sits there spinning in the air.. almost straight.. like a tiny cement mixer on a truck..

Plesac limits the damage..but has to work at it.. not a great first inning.. let's see if he can settle in & have a good outing..

Well, OK then.
If you look at a well thrown slider... the back of the ball as it's traveling to the plate will have a spin axis "around" 2 oclock to 8 oclock and a little red dot that is created from the red stitches on the ball by the clockwise spin. The tigher the spin.. the sharper/later the break.. Some sliders.. don't break.. and they fly very far when hit..

Thorpe has a big, sweeping curve that sure looks hittable.

Thorpe's fastball isn't.. but his curveball does..

You’re talking from the pitcher’s view.

It will be interesting to see what happens the second time our guys see Thorpe.

Three walks fill the bases. The only thing that is keeping Thorpe above water is a sterling play by Arreas.

Ut oh...

Somethings wrong with Thorpe, and it looks like his shoulder.

Thorpe was just recalled after being sidelined with a shoulder strain.

Does anyone through a slider that breaks from 12 to 6
Or is that simply an overhand curve ball or a split finger

yeah... looks like we're going to have to wait until next year to see Thorpe again..something was wrong....

a curveball is thrown more out of the top of your hand as you release it.. it has a definite 12 to 6 rotation and is usuall quite slow.. as opposed to a slider that is thrown moreso with a fastball delivery and higher velo.. A split finger usually acts closer to a change up with orbital/horizontal spin and a lot of the speed bled off.

I used to throw a knuckleball (three finger).. but with a very low/almost side arm delivery at around 65-70 mph. I could make a baseball spiral at different amplitudes.. drive hitters nuts..
