2021 Season | Series #47 | Royals @ Indians | Sep. 20-22

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Essentially we have a long list of MIF who all know how to play 2B, SS and 3B... the best will make it at 2B and SS in due time, while someone may get a utility spot...

Rocchio is a shortstop until he proves the bat warrants him being a utility player instead.

He’s a SS with elite ability to play elsewhere if the bat doesn’t come.

The most natural SS in the system since Lindor.

This is a rather subjective debate IMO. Though I think Rocchio is indeed a ML caliber SS, I think he is also the most likely to get "pushed off" the position because he could play GG 2nd and maybe even in the corner OF.

It really comes down to the performances of Arias (our best internal option for long term 3rd base play IMO) Freeman (does he land at 2nd) Gimenez (can he hit enough to play regularly in the ML) if he can, he lands at 2nd/SS and personally I think Palacios is way overlooked in general. I think the FO is much higher on him than we consider and unless moved to a corner (only played 2B and CF in 2021) is also in the top end of the mix.

Oh and then there is Clement, Chang and Miller.

And finally there is Tena, someone we don't know much about defensively but he made the least amount of errors as a "regular" SS in our system this year.

Is it Rocchio, Arias, Gimenez, Rosario, Freeman, Tena? Hopefully the cup runneth over and doesn't fizzle out. Should be a fun follow

Out of all the people you listed, I would consider Rocchio to be the least likely to be moved off SS.

Criz.. you get it!!

This is exactly where I was going.. It's not that Rocchio cannot play SS. (I have him listed as a SS on my minor league list for this reason) it's that when he is promoted (not if he's promoted) the Guardians will be a better team with him at 2B w/ Angel Martinez or Gabriel Arias or.. or.. or.. at SS.. Rocchio has GG capability at any infield spot including 2B.. That's how important his baseball IQ is.. He just gets the job done..

As far as what the minor league contributors could be.. 1B Jones, 2B Rocchio, SS Martinez 3B Arias.. would be as good as any..

Thoughts?..

Just guessing.. but.. no game tonight.. this deluge isn't slowing down for a while.. but..it's the last game of the season between to the two clubs.. so they will go to great lengths to play the game if they can..

I could see that as well. Personally I think Arias is our most gifted defender at SS, and think Rocchio would excel at other positions.

I like Arias at 3rd, Rocchio at SS or Arias at SS and Rocchio at 2nd. But if Palacios or Gimenez or.. locks 2nd down in 2022 - who knows what they'll do.

yea, that's what i was thinking - been raining here in cbus all day

They will try very hard to get today's game in, otherwise it won't get made up. With potential contractual/vesting issues at play etc. They might wait until 9-10 EST before calling it if they have too.
