2021 Season | Series #47 | Royals @ Indians | Sep. 20-22

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
9 hits 7 earned runs !!! In 4.1 innings

Lets hope they were sitting on something because this clearly isn't a recipe for FOR starter success. More likely a BOR part on a sub 500 team, which it looks like the Indians will definitely be after this pitiful sweep.

I have to hand it to the Indians org as far as their run of success. Looks like we have to go back to '12 or so to find an under 500 team. Darn good run
I watched the Royals' broadcast and they came up with a stat that I don't know if the Indians' announcers knew about, but they were saying that McKenzie has gone six or more innings giving up three or fewer hits and one or fewer runs in each of his last five starts, and no pitcher has done this since 1920.

IOW, this was the best five-game stretch by a starting pitcher in over 100 years. Feller, Koufax, the Big Unit, Ryan - none of them ever had a five-game stretch this good.

On June 12 McKenzie walked four hitters in the first inning against the Mariners and was sent to Columbus after the game. Two months later, on Aug. 10, he started his five-game dominant streak. That was a 180-degree turnaround in only two months.

I'm hoping they do the same with Karinchak.

Could be right Wham. But divisional foes figure out pitchers first. So the Royals kind of pounding on him wouldn't be a surprise. But it is kind of foreboding for the future results.

Maybe he turns out to be your "hall of fame" pitcher. Maybe not my MOR guy. Probably somewhere in between. The 5 game stretch, while most likely true, sounds like an ESPN stat => 1st pitcher to .... when 6 black cats on full moon evenings, when the tigers escaped from the circus to accomplish ...

Great for segment headlines, not much for reality over the long run

I ... I'm hoping they do the same with Karinchak.
I believe that the issues with Karinchak are physical.. He's got the kind of delivery / mechanics that can get out of whack very quickly if he's not healthy.. That may describe the reasoning for him not pitching much for the past two to four weeks.. allowing him to get fully healthy..

I could be wrong.. there's a first for everything...

Thoughts?..

as usual.. Merrifield digs out a two seam fastball and flares it into CF for a lead off single to start the game..

I thought for sure Lopez was going to call "time out" right after Quantrill delivered the pitch.. 4-6-3 DP.. nice..

Salvy goes after the first pitch.. flies to RF.. nicely done.. six or seven pitch first inning for Q...

WTF is mercado doing?.. bunting?..

Kind of a mist falling at the park.. Nice AB by mercado.. after the bunt attempt and swinging at a high FB....Mercado fouled off two more pitches before working a walk on the 8th pitch he saw.. two on.. nobody out.. JRam coming up to bat..

Nearly every pitcher has a night like TMacs at some point, even the best.

It happens, and it means absolutely nothing.

********

As for middle relievers, if you dont like one example, how many will you accept?

Wickman, Shaw, Plunk, Doug Jones, Otero, Ollie Perez.

All had off years. All followed with multiple good ones.

Those are just relievers who have pitched for us. Do you need any more?

Yu clears the bases with a triple that was smoked and aided by some good fortune.

The weather is questionable going forward.

Owen Miller and Brad Zimmer come up with a runner at 3B and strike out. 3-0 going to the second.. if the umpires don't pull the tarp and wait out the rain...

Quantrill nearly had the highlight play on tonight's Sportscenter.

How and why does Carlos Santana hit sub-.220?

Quantrill psyched! That was a sweet relay.
