2021 Season | Series #49 | Indians @ Royals | Sep. 28-30

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Normally when Shaw pitches the haters come out in droves... lol

As per too often normal, we go into the ninth needing base runners.....

But after two outs, we don't have any.

JRam is our last hope tonight..

not to be.. Royals win.. 6-4... onto tomorrow..

The Indians manage one run in 8.1 innings against the Royals' bullpen. Pathetic.

At least there were a lot of opposite field hits. All four runs were scored on oppo hits. In the first inning Straw had an oppo double, Jose an oppo single, then Franmil an oppo single to get two runs home followed by an oppo double play that got the third run home.

In the seventh it was an oppo single by Mercado and an oppo double by Chang to get the 4th run home.

Jose had an oppo double that was wasted and Berto had an oppo single. I don't think the Tribe had a single pulled hit all night.

Salvador Perez owned Civale; a walk in his first at-bat in which he scored on the Benintendi home run, a leadoff double where he scored, and a home run. Civale has to be so fine with his command in order to be effective - he has no room for error due to his lack of velo. The Benintendi home run was on a pitch well above the zone. Normally when a batter swings at a pitch that high he misses or fouls it back. Benintendi hit it on the screws. That shouldn't happen but it does when your fastball is only 90 mph.

Shaw and Perez both looked old. Shaw gave up the game-winning triple to Lopez and Perez let him score on a routine pitch in the dirt that should have been easily blocked. Shaw needed 26 pitches to get two outs, giving up the triple and a walk in the process. He no longer can come in and dominate the hitters. He struggles to get outs.

Rick and Matt were talking about how when relief pitchers come in the game grinds to a halt because they know they're only pitching one inning and can throw 25 pitches if they want to. Starters can't throw 25 pitches an inning if they want to go more than four innings, so they are more aggressive and the game moves quicker. Also, a lot of relievers throw in the high 90's and there are more strikeouts. I never thought of it that way, but I agree, once the bullpens get involved things really slow down.

They were saying that sometimes you see eight or nine batters come to the plate without a ball being put in play; it's all walks or strikeouts. They actually said today's game is boring. Finally, with six games left we're getting some honesty.

I forgot to add that Anthony Gose had another good outing. In his last three appearances his line is 3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 runs, 0 walks, 5 K's. Small sample but pretty encouraging. Maybe that trip to the Olympic Games helped him put it together. No walks is huge because that was his biggest problem, if I'm not mistaken.

Plesac against David Lynch tonight. Lynch is 4-6, 5.40 ERA. His September ERA is 8.10. He faced the Indians eight days ago and gave up 4 runs in 6 innings.

In Plesac's last six starts he's held opponents to 3 or fewer runs in five of them. He has a 2.45 ERA in two starts against the Royals this year.

My advice is don't pitch to Salvador Perez (47 home runs) and Andrew Benintendi, who is hitting .347 in September.

Last nights was a poorly played game all around, as opposed how sharp the team looked on Monday.

Gose certainly looks good in a very small sample size. Is it a mirage, or is he for real? And if the FO thinks he might be real, who do they let go to find out?

Nick-witt.. Alex Young.. Shaw.. others.. 12 to 14 current 40 man spots are up for consideration..

If a guy can play.. and so far, Gose is showing he can in the SSS & he has another half dozen games to show.. there will be a spot for him..

i assume that if unprotected a lefty 100mph flame thrower would be claimed - i assume the fo takes that into account - i assume also the fo is trying to figure our bullpen such as it is - seems this has gone from being a cool story to a true roster consideration

Walks/control have been his problem for sure. Since the Olympics - he has been markedly better without a doubt. Think he might stick around at this point.

Thats 26, without counting Parker and Shaw.

Six have to go.

If you want to keep Gose, because of extremely small sample size, which ones are you willing to let walk?

you dont think 42/3 innings is a big enough sample size to make a judgement?
