2021 Series #20 | Mariners @ Indians | June 11-13, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The best way to produce is to consistently hit the ball hard, which he is doing at the best rate of his career.
and he's having the worst season of his career and it's not even close. Spin it any way you like.

Cesar with some more "unlucky" play I guess. Which fancy advanced stat do we use for that one?

Bieber must have been using the good, gooey stuff from his pal Bauer.

cesar with another error - bauers on base for the fifth time today - 6-1 mariners

Was talking to an Indians FO guy last night about what he was hearing about sticky Said an internal study the Indians did within the last week or so had spin rates down across the league. Said minor league guys are running pretty scared after those suspensions of the 4 or 5 minor league guys.

Asked him about guys that would be effected on the Indians staff and the 2 names that came up immediately were Bieber and Karinchak. Said they had to send a memo around last week to players and coaches.

PS - give credit where credit is do. Sticky buddy for Biebs on the Indians was Clevinger not Bauer. Bauer never touched the stuff until after he left Cleveland. But Biebs and Clev were all "stuck" together I guess one could say.

I guess that is baseball. Get a win last night you shouldn't have (starter getting knocked out and it becoming a bullpen game and all) and then lose a game today you had to assume you would win (with Biebs going and all).

Crazy sport. You just never can tell from day to day

The last five hitters in the Mariners order came in hitting below .200. After Haniger went down in the 1st inning I figured Bieber would throw a 2-hit shutout with 12 K's. Wow. He ended up giving up more runs than in any game this year. Give credit to the Mariners - they had six opposite field hits off him, four by lefties. Shane had some early success with the curveball and they started looking for it. They had a great plan and executed it to perfection.

Sometimes I think Bieber should just throw fastballs to the four corners of the zone and mix in a few breaking balls. But he's been very successful pitching backwards.

Good thing we don't play the Mariners again. In two starts Bieber pitched 10.1 innings allowing 15 hits and 8 earned runs. And the M's are ranked 12th in the A.L. in scoring. Yep, it's a crazy sport.

I'm wondering if Cesar Hernandez is trying to make himself into a power hitter. Last year he had 3 home runs in 233 at-bats. This year he has 10 home runs in 239 at-bats. But his batting average is down 70 points from .283 to .213. Is that because he's swinging for the fences?

His on-base percentage is down 60 points to .295, which is awful for a leadoff hitter. His slugging percentage is lower because his doubles have decreased from 20 to 9. The only thing up is the home runs.

Launch angle baby!!!! His fly ball rate has doubled from last year. I sure miss the days when guys actually learned how to hit rather than prepare themselves for slow pitch softball after their retirement.

I don't think any launch angle change has been made or even considered for Cesar. Hitting is down league wide and things haven't normalized yet from the short 2020 season. Throw in the "sticky stuff" in a time when pitchers are peaking and you get what you have. I don't know for sure, but I'd bet my next paycheck that there hasn't been any focus put on Cesar's launch angle.

Maybe not but his line drive rate is significantly down and his fly ball rate has spiked so maybe there wasn't a concerted effort to change his swing but maybe subconsciously Cesar decided to join the party.

Well it's a different year and we're not even to the halfway mark yet. If you have some hard evidence then put it out there so the rest of us can see it. Otherwise, it's hearsay and best guesses.

I'm looking at the fking #'s. What other hard evidence would you like? And yes, there is a long way to go but to date we got what we got.
