2021 Trade Ideas and Deadline talk!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't think they would trade one of their top 3 prospects, so I don't see a fit outside of that... Giants I feel like have more to offer us right now than the Padres would since they are willing to move a package around Bart plus they are a fit for Hernandez as well...
they didnt give up a top 3 prospect for clevinger - why would they give one up for plesac?

The day off tomorrow seems like a good time to cut a deal with someone.

Plesac is 27, has 4 years of control left, and hasn't had any significant injuries aside from the freak thumb injury.

Clevinger was 29, had 3 years of control, and had a pretty significant recent history with injuries prior to the trade.

With almost every team in need of a SP they shouldn't trade Plesac for anything less than that.

Plesac on paper is worth a bit more since he is under team control longer...

That's kind of my point though, I don't see San Diego giving up one of their top 3 prospects, which on paper are like the only ones I really want from them. Giants in my mind have a lot more to offer...

I'm calling BS, and I said they should keep one, but not both. We're basically a NL team with them 2.

Who do we have to replace one? We just have a catcher in the minors who is a free agent with no team control after this season... Why swap them when we at least have team control over both Perez and Hedges for 22?

Now it would be different if we traded one, then got like a Henry from the Brewers to replace him, but right now, why get rid of a veteran with team control when we don't have anyone internally to replace them with control?

I used to like luplow better, but I can’t remember when he was good.

I suspect that one OF spot for next year, probably the 4th, is a battle between zimmer and Mercado.
Depending how guys finish the 2021 season, they could be DFA fodder to clear roster space for those needing roster protection come mid November..

If they make any moves at the deadline I hope stick to their draft strategy or stick with what they know.

I’d swear the FO was attempting to exploit the “market” of player’s with plate discipline issues: Reyes, Naylor, Miller, Arias, Hedges, Amed, Gimenez, Eddie, Ramirez. Before they went mining the market I was saying dumb stuff like “if you don’t have at least a league average zone you couldn’t play for me.” Little did I know that edict would put the club in the position to needing forfeit a season because it couldn’t fill a line up card. Hell, that is not even dipping into recognition or contact skills.

This collection of position players is nauseating to watch at the plate.

I hate being negative so who da’ thunk Bobby Bradley would leap that hurdle so far this year. If he maintains it through the year he deserves a standing ovation.

Bobby Bradley:

June: 78 PA, 8 HR, 17 RBI, 7 BB, 21 SO, .954 OPS
July: 72 PA, 3 HR, 4 RBI, 11 BB, 30 SO, .684 OPS

Safe to say the league has adjusted. Let's see if he can adjust back.
I think this is about what I plan on seeing out of Bradley. Hot/cold streaks and Ks.... if he can cumulatively be 2??/300/500 going forward.. Not great but good enough.

Anything less than moving Cesar + Eddie will be a disappointment. I'm just wondering what's taking so long. Even if we get next to nothing, we need to learn about the kids. I'll see how this plays out by next week but what's the hold up! This FO can't really think we have a shot at the WC, do they? It's over

That's my point. They need to address the issue and Perez's control is an option for $7+M. It wouldn't surprise me to see them decline Berto's option and resign him to a better deal then trade Hedges. Pure guesses by me.

Even if they get nothing in terms of players they would free up around $6 million they won't have to pay them the rest of the year. That money could be used to sign a left-handed reliever next year for those innings when you have Choi, Meadows, Wendle, Lowe, and Kiermaier coming up late in the game with a one-run lead.

I get the frustration with players chasing pitches outside the zone, especially with two strikes. My TV is constantly in danger from flying objects.

According to Fangraphs the Indians are 7th in the majors in highest swing percentage outside the zone. Only six teams chase more. Who's the worst? The Red Sox, who are 61-39. The White Sox are 6th, just slighty worse than the Indians. Those teams rank 3rd and 4th in the A.L. in runs per game so chasing more bad pitches than even the Indians isn't stopping them from scoring a lot of runs. They must be doing a lot more damage on the good pitches they swing at.

The Indians are averaging 4.28 runs per game, up slightly from last year's 4.19 despite the losses of Lindor and Santana.

One major issue is lack of power from the outfield. Eddie has seven home runs in 283 at-bats. Naylor has seven in 233 at-bats. Harold has six in 213 at-bats. Zimmer has two in 129, which projects to 10 in 650 AB's.

The only outfielder we have who has shown any real power is Jordan Luplow with seven homers in 98 at-bats. He also has 21 walks, which is why I like him more than Harold; more power, a better OBP, much better defense, and can play all three OF positions. He actually has an .863 OPS against right-handed pitching in 48 at-bats this year.

I think the loss of Luplow for 50-60 games this year has had a bigger impact than people realize.

I don't see either guys getting moved... If they had the successor ready then I could see one getting moved, but we don't... Also who your battery mate is does matter a lot and with young pitchers, you always want a very knowledgeable and solid catcher on the defensive side. Ramos doesn't give you that so replacing one of them right now, doesn't make any sense to me...

Point being he’s not wandering outside the zone: 36.8 to 29,3 with league average 30.5. There are still issues -contact and data suggests recognition-but progress is progress. If he can maintain it his hard work should be recognized.

To me there’s nothing more annoying than a hitter perpetually wandering outside the zone. Unfortunately that’s the majority of the current roster.
