2021 Trade Ideas and Deadline talk!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The upcoming roster crunch at the end of the season will play an impact on who is still here (or not).
Even after adding Nick Sandlin & Owen Miller to the 40 man roster during this season, there are still a dozen plus players that need to be decided on.

The flexibility of Amed Rosario is helpful as he can fulfill 1 role now and a different role next season
I suspect that Bobby Bradley & Bradley Zimmer are playing for their roster spots (& my guess is neither will survive the coming roster purge).
If Luplow continues to struggle after returning from the IL, Harold Ramirez might be sliding into that spot (& thereby free another roster spot for the minor league bunch).
I suspect the same unless BB proves otherwise. The question I have, if it's really a question since there isn't another option, is who replaces BB? Naylor's bat is not even close to what a 1B should provide and he might struggle to hold a full time OF spot if he doesn't start showing a better approach. Tito and Co. doesn't seem to enthused about playing Naylor at 1B either. Clearly this will be an acquisition target either via trade or FA if BB doesn't work out.

An intriguing trade target for me is Alex Cobb. He's in the final year of his contract, of which Baltimore is paying the majority remaining. His ERA is nothing spectacular at 4.24, but his xERA is 3.30 and his FIP is even 2.55. He's also at 11 K/9 and 98th percentile in chase rate. Shouldn’t cost much either, and I can't see the Angels being in contention come late July.

OK, let's "reboot" here and reassess where this team is at and what we would like to see them do. For me, I'd like to see all of Zimmer, Eddie, Luplow, and even Chang traded or cut loose. I want to focus on seeing what some of these young guys have to offer and getting them some exposure. I especially would like to get Amed some consistent time in CF prior to next season. Maybe guys like Eddie and/or Luplow could even bring back another 1B that is blocked in another organization.

I would also consider offers for Plesac no later than next offseason. Where are you guys at with the current roster?

I think it's a given that Plesac is no longer an Indian by the 2022 deadline.

I'd love to consolidate quarters into a dollar.

I'm not ready to give up on Zimmer just yet.

If in fact it's a given that Plesac is gone by a year from now.....we need to get a starter back pretty quickly. I don't see how we can expect to have 3 starters out of what we've seen to this point.

I think we are on a bubble at the moment. the 30 in 31 days will determine which way we head at the deadline and rest of the year....

After 59 games the Indians are -12 in run differential despite playing the 26th easiest schedule. On top of that they have no 3, 4, and 5 starters, although they'll get Plesac back in a few weeks and McKenzie looked good in his last two starts.

I don't see this as a playoff team unless McKenzie and somebody else (Mejia,Quantrill?) pitch a lot better than they have so far and Franmil goes on a tear in the second half.

It's all about player development. Leave Gimenez, Mercado, and Miller in the minors for development. They need to play every day. Put Bradley at first every day and start Chang against lefties. Zimmer has to play center because Tito is sick of seeing catchable fly balls dropping out there.

We're not going to the playoffs with the second half schedule being much tougher, and if we do manage to sneak into a wild card spot we won't go far. Time to find out if Bradley and Zimmer can play up here. Zimmer is 28 - time to fish or cut bait. Harold can DH until Franmil gets back, then platoon him with Naylor in right.
I don't understand the negativity on JC Mejia at all. A swinging bunt and a blown called strike 3 kept him from a scoreless first last night. Those were the first runs he's allowed all season as well. Plesac gave up 8 runs in 2/3 of an inning earlier this year. Take a breath on CJ Mejia, he has great stuff will be just fine.

I'd agree that we are on the "bubble" right now. If they decided they wanted to make a run this year they could, and I think it would be totally feasible. On the other hand, playing the kids and seeing what we have in preparation of making a run from the start of the 22 season also makes sense. I just want them to choose one and get on with it.

If they want to compete then they'll need another SP and a bat unless Bradley performs well.

If they want to look toward next season then I'd look to move Eddie, Cesar, Luplow, Zimmer and Chang. We could then put HRam in LF and leave him there. We could have either Miller or Freeman play 2B and leave them there. We could move Amed to CF for the rest of the season and allow him to get more comfortable there. They could call up Johnson and see if he's gonna cut the mustard. It might be at the expense of Naylor or there might be an OF rotation. Either way they need to see what he can do. Continue to build all of Quantrill, McKenzie, and Mejia's innings without putting them at risk. Look to get a young, controllable SP and 1B in return for the aforementioned. If they need to sweeten the pot a little there are more than enough resources to do so. This is the route I'd prefer they take at this time.

Like I said, I'd move Plesac too. He has some good value and there are a few teams that would be really interested.

he gave up two doubles - two walks - got rattled by Molina - was skeered to throw a strike - if he's gonna pee down his leg every time he loses a close call he might want to move on - he performed soft - very much like Quantrill in his start

He is injury prone, but if we can get him without giving up to much, I am definitely not against the idea... I would like another veteran SP on this roster so he fits it on paper

I think he will get traded once he is due arbitration... It will be a bit harder to trade him before that in some ways unless we get the other guys to step up more than they have this season.

Personally though from what I can tell, if we arent 100% in the race this season, I would trade Plesac with Daniel Johnson/one of our prospects for OF Alek Thomas and RHP Bryce Jarvis... On paper I don't think we loose...

Absolutely...

It increases the chances of post-season for the Tribe.... IF (and a big IF) the pitching can get more consistent & the offense can continue to improve..
I am starting to think we might need to consider going "all in" at this point. The Twins falling flat and Chicago injuring themselves into oblivion presents a unique opportunity, hope we get hot and find some momentum.

Reyes should be back eventually but even then I still think we lack a bat and we lack a veteran SP (the young guys aren't 100% ready yet cause of the missed year)... So now the question is, will acquiring at least a rental for both spots help us beat the Chicago team?
