2022-2023 NBA Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Kyrie has left such a trail of destruction behind him. I guess he didn’t really damage the Celtics, but if Dallas goes down he’ll have thrown three teams into rebuild mode

On another topic, the Lakers are looking like they might do it…if they finish 7th or 8th they would just have to win one of two to make the playoffs

If Lebron is back and close to 100%, a potential Nuggets-Lakers matchup would be intriguing, given Denver's complete lack of rim protection to defend against Lebron & AD.

Not saying the Lakers would win a series but it would sure be entertaining.

The West seems pretty open this year. If Durant comes back fully healthy I would actually favor Phoenix with him to win the West. It’s fucked up how he can upset competitive balance when he goes to an already high level team

I may have said this already, but I think Cleveland won the Kyrie for Isaiah trade. We got more value out of it than Boston did.

I was completely befuddled by Kyrie's move in 2017. Why would he leave a title contender with the best player on the planet? It seemed to be a negative career move from the start. I'd never heard of a star willingly leaving an NBA champion for a non-championship team.

Then K.D. did the same with Golden State.

Mavs are 7-12 since acquiring KI, 3-7 when he and Luka are playing in the
same game.

Star guard Kyrie Irving was asked about the booing of the home crowd in the postgame press conference.

“So what?” Irving said. “You obviously want to play well, but it’s only five people on the court that can play for the Dallas Mavericks. If the fans wanna change places, then hey, be my guest. Got years of work ahead to be great enough to be on this level.”

This is not a guy I would want my kid to emulate. ^^^^

This guy sure is.

What a great dude Lillard is. The way he speaks and thinks is so contrary to Kyrie, that they seem like two different species.

New favorite non-Cav.

And I know what he’s saying here on a surface level, but I want to see him win one. (if the Cavs aren’t in the Finals)

I appreciate guys who are uber-competitive and ruthless too, but I appreciate him as a dude.

We didn’t win the Kyrie trade. Both sides lost that trade. It’s not zero sum, there are lose-lose and win-win trades. That was a lose-lose, the Mitchell trade might have been win-win

How can you spend all this time trying to be wise and spiritual and say things so dumb and insensitive?

You're right. The Cavs got weaker after he left, and Kyrie weakened Boston.

Each team can also get better, like the Cavs and Utah--although Utah's betterment is mostly in the future, while we're better right now.

Maybe Utah is better in the future, but they seem like a 38-44 type of mood. They overachieved this year a little, including Mark, but I don't see much growth potential there. I think they hope the Cavs implode in 25-29 getting them top 3 picks. Its a Ainge long game. If the Cavs just get them 20-30 picks, it failed.

As if keeping a disgruntled Kyrie was a realistic option OR there was a better deal out there.

We used the assets acquired in that deal for trades that landed other players, including Mitchell.

Cavs made the correct decision to get him out for the best price available. I’m glad he’s not on our team anymore. He peaked in June 2016.

Sometimes assets lose value through no fault of the owner which means it’s a salvage job.

Koby had no way of knowing Kyrie would turn into a complete knucklehead. Boston acquired him because the Celtics culture gets players buying into team first (Russell, Havlicek, Cowens, Bird, etc). Ainge found out Kyrie is NOT a team player. Nets then signed him because Durant was in the package deal and, well, they’re the Nets. Cuban’s ego and desperation to find a partner for Luka led him to believe acquiring this space cadet was smart.

We got a ring and dumped him for minor pieces that Koby turned into legit players. And all because the Clippers were owned by a moron who traded us an unprotected first.

We’re the Kyrie team with the least regrets.

This man is dropping knowledge.

...right into the fucking toilet by ignoring the fact that over half of that 'years of work ahead' is winning the genetic lottery that he's wasting.

I feel like Kyrie doesn't really have a personality or identity and never did. He's a container full of moods and whatever else someone pours inside of him.
Cryie in response to the fans booing:

“I've been in New York City, so I know what that's like. You obviously want to play well, but it's only five people on the court that can play for the Dallas Mavericks. If the fans wanna change places, then hey, be my guest. Got years of work ahead to be great enough to be on this level."
Again he feels like the fans owe him something and they are beneath him.

I don’t think we got any legit players out of the Kyrie trade. We got Sexton who was/is a decent player but far from a star. And Sexton was an unimportant sign and trade throw in for the Mitchell deal, he definitely didn’t get us Mitchell.

I guess you could say we traded some of the scraps from that trade for Nance who then figured into the Markkanen deal, but it wasn’t like teams wanted Nance that much - if we hadn’t had him we could have trade someone else for Lauri. Also not like we needed the pieces from the Kyrie deal to get Nance - the Lakers were desperate to dump his salary. We could probably have swapped a second rounder for him.

Yeah Koby has done some very cool stuff since that deal but 2018 was not his finest hour. I still have residual trauma from watching Lebron carry that team with zero help. There were certainly better pieces we could have gotten for Kyrie. It was all a big roll of the dice on the NJ pick
