So Bally Sports Networks are going bankrupt. They may cease operations pretty soon.
MLB will be producing games, including the Guardians, on MLB Network. They make MLB TV free in the cities affected.
But I think this also affects the Cavs.
If Bally's goes under, who does the Cavs games? Does anybody have any info on this?

Is AC going to lose his job? What happens to Campy now?

So the NBA only has renewed their contract with Bally's until 2024-2025 season which aligns when their national deals expire. I think they have a plan to go without Bally's or RSNs in general beyond that point. My guess is they have a backup plan just in case Bally's goes under before then.

It's also real possible that Bally's goes under as a domino effect. When they cut the 4 MLB markets, they will most likely lose a lot of those subscribers during the offseason for the NBA and NHL. That will further hurt their bottom line and they will be force to make decisions on payments and further cuts. That will then make more subscribers to only subscribe part of the year.

I think their model isn't viable long term. Not enough hardcore fans to subscribe to a standalone service without it being packaged to a cable service. Also cable is slowly dying as people go to picking their own steaming services. There just isn't a system to make RSNs viable going forward.

The leagues need to cut off RSNs and move to selling packages of games to a wide variety of networks or creating their own networks on free TV/streaming. The ad revenue is there and they need to look at a broad market to get viewership not a narrow regional viewership. There is a large untapped market of people watching illegal streams or just highlights that they can regain if they provided free broadcast/streams to.

For reference, only about 60,000 people watch an average Cavs game on the RSNs.

As it stands we need Miami to get to 39 losses to have playoffs officially locked in, each cavs win lowers that number of losses required. Miami are currently on 33 losses, Miami get a lot of close wins like today

We have the best divisional record in the NBA, guess it helps being in the same division as the Pistons who are 0-12 vs the division so far.
Miami need to get to 38 losses now, they're still on 33

There are no plans whatsoever for Bally's to cease operations. They filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy which is for reorganization not a Chapter 13 which is for closure and sale of assets. Even under bankruptcy they've continued to make all of their rights fee payments except for the one they owe to the Arizona Diamondbacks who opted out of Bally's streaming service. The MLB plans were in place IF Bally's stopped paying rights fees, but so far all that Bally's has stopped paying is the debt service from its buyouts.

Chapter 13 is for a reorganization for individuals. Chapter 7 is liquidation for companies. .

I know it's not going to happen, but man I wish we'd keep our pick this year. We need a wing & this draft is filled with those.

J.R. Smith, a two-time NBA champion, is changing his focus from basketball to golf in a four-part docuseries for Amazon. Prime Video is launching Redefined: J.R. Smith, which will follow the retired baller as he pursues a college education and new athletic passion – golf – at North Carolina A&T. The series, which will launch on April 4, comes from LeBron James and Maverick Carter and their Uninterrupted banner.

That's something I'll watch. The idea of JR actually going back to college and earning a degree is awesome, and the golf stuff adds a really cool angle.

So, dont take this the wrong way, but a Chapter 13 is a personal reorganization for personal BK, so a chapter 11 and 13 are the same, just one is corperate. A wipeout of debt is a Chapter 7.

There is no Chapter 7 for a business because if you cant pay any debts, the courts would make you close your doors. 100% of the time when a business goes through a bankruptcy, the hope is they continue to keep the doors open.

I am in finance, and just couldnt let it go, sorry, like you, great poster, just what i know, lol

I was friends with a bankruptcy lawyer once. His wildest story was about a guy who owned a trucking company and was going through his fourth bankruptcy, each of which he had somehow made to benefit him. My friend was on the creditor side and they had somehow figured out a way to get to his personal assets. The guy showed up at his office with two vials of blood screaming at them that he had AIDS and he was going to shower them with blood.

Sorry, I haven't done any work in the area for 30 years, 2 summers of internships convinced me I'd hang myself if I got a JD.
The detail may have been misnumbered but the message was still correct, Bally's is intending to do a reorganization not a closure. The fact that they continue to pay rights fees should be proof of that.
