2022 American League Central Division Champions

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I've cited my source. if you don't like it well tough shit.

My comment was more directed at these comments. Which is you talking out of your ass

"Bieber will command Sherzer/Verlander type money and the will get it."

"Don't care which Rosenhaus brother it is, they come from the same cloth....no hometown discounts."

"I think the team will let him pitch here through 24 and try to win it all. Makes no sense at all to make a Clevenger type trade when the team already
has Rule 5 issues to deal with."

"Speaking of which, I think the same thing with Amed. They will keep him next year and hope Freeman, Rocchio or Arias will step up in 24."

From my perspective, which is of no inside information at all, I think Bieber wants to hit free agency and I am extremely skeptical the Guardians can put together enough money to change Bieber's intent, especially after the Jose Ramirez extension. In my opinion, I think to keep Shane they'll need to ante up at least $100m and I'm still not sure that will be good enough.

However, I am not terribly concerned with Lloyd's report that Shane Bieber rejected a contract extension (after the 2020 season) "far exceeding" Blake Snell's 5 yr $50m extension. The Guardians are in a much worse position of negotiating now than they were then, but are overall still in a good position considering Bieber still has 2 years of team control left.

Also, to poke more holes in Lloyd’s story.

I know for a fact the organization didn’t offer anyone a contract extension in 2020 or 2021 while revenue sharing was paused and attendance was non-existent/low due to Covid.

Multiple people have reported that. I have told all of you that since the Lindor talks were pulled off the table when the league shut down spring of 2020.

There have been discussions about what a potential deal would look like, there has yet to be a formal offer. You can’t turn an offer down if no offer was made.

And if Bieber wants to hit free agency, it flys against everything he has said both publicly and privately, especially over the last calendar year post-injury and post Jose extension.

Dolan showed though in 17, he can go north of 100 million, if they are a contender. I don't like so much of the budget going towards two guys, but for the fans though, I think giving Bieber an extension is a good thing.

5/120 is likely the area he will be looking for... Can they merit 50 million in two guys?

Roster construction wise, I'm on the side of the fence of Gavin, Bibee, Espino taking over for Bieber when his contract is up and still being happy if he's not re-signed. I know it's not the Guardian way to keep him and play it out for World Series ramifications, but that's a good idea if they can't come to terms.

Would love if they re-signed him though, the future plus him being the All star veteran would be a tremendous pillar of success for the youth pitching coming up. But he's also expendable for the same reason if the club really believes in their crops.

You have to think that, if we're trying to keep him just for a WS title in that way, that we'd come to agreement on even a 2-year deal (the last year plus one year of free agency). This way we could use him for that one year and then trade him the next.

As somebody who knows less G's insider info than Jason Lloyd -- I love this concept, but it is difficult for me to see Bieber taking this sort of deal (first year of FA)...he'd either sign a 4 plus year extension, or ride out the present contract. I guess if they offered a really high AAV (35 m+) for the one season, he might consider it, but that does not seem very Guardian like, either.

I think he might be willing to push back free agency one year in order to stay in Cleveland for a title run while still getting paid.

I have no idea what his numbers will look like, but let's say his arb number is 15 and his free agency expects to pay 30 a year. Locking him up for 2/45 (a one-year extension) sounds like something that would work for all parties involved.

He could very well still turn that down. I'm just saying that if the options are to use him until the end and let him walk, or this--then I think the organization would prefer this.

Numbers I am expecting is 12-15 million for 23 and 20ish for 24 at the current moment...

So if you say 35 million over the next two years is his arb numbers...

Since he is young and if he stays healthy, he will get north of 30 in free agency, likely 4-5 year contract if not more, if he doesn't sign an extension and stays healthy...

Hence why the extension number I am thinking is 5/120... I don't think Cleveland can go much higher than that... Castillo was what 5/108, but he is older and hasn't had the numbers Bieber has on paper (though he has been good). If Cleveland could get near that, plus maybe add bonuses for Cy Young, All-Star appearances, he may take it...

How I came up with that number...

Bieber on paper is due 35 the next two seasons on paper for Arb, and 30 million per season after that for 3 seasons is an additional 90. So 125, so if we do 120 plus possible bonuses, it would be close enough to free agency, that the agent would think on it at least...

Did you mean to quote my post?

Because we were talking about the hypothetical situation where a long-term extension wasn't on the table, and the option was to trade Bieber before he hit free agency, or to let him walk for nothing.

I said that, under that scenario, the organization might try and squeeze one extra year out of him so that we could ride out that last year and still trade him.

I also specifically stated that I have no idea what the numbers would look like. Feel free to use variables for the last arb year and the first year of free agency for all I care.

I feel like I am living under a rock ... there is such a thing as "Fake" news???? People just making up stories for $$$$ .... I would have never have guessed.:chuckle::chuckle::chuckle::chuckle:

"source with knowledge of the Guardians’ thinking, it wasn’t for a lack of trying. The team presented Bieber with a significant extension that far surpassed the deal Snell signed with the Rays, I was told. Bieber rejected it."

Meh... doesn't seem like the greatest reporting but is it an outright lie or just dramatization? Don't think you need a formal offer to make this still somewhat true (i.e. they presented the possibility of an extension and what it might look like and Bieber found it insufficient or didn't want to continue the talk). If that is even false though then it's worse.

Edit: missed the timing thing

They didn't even approach Bieber about a contract extension when the season resumed in 2020 or 2021. They didn't approach anyone. They were losing money hand over fist and there was a ton of uncertainty about the league's future and all of those talks were put on hold internally.

They had short discussions this spring swapping ideas before agreeing on both sides to see how Shane's arm holds up before approaching the topic more seriously. That is the entire story of the Shane Bieber contract extension saga with Cleveland.

His timeline of when this supposed offer was made makes 0 sense.

Not sure how they going do it, and I’m sure there’s a way, but I want Brennan on the post season roster and honestly he probably my starting RF and have Oscar DH……..Arias make it over Owen also.

He also isn’t exactly known for his coverage of the Cleveland baseball team.

There are only 2 reporters who get direct info from sources in the organization. Lloyd ain’t one of them.

Meisel and Bruce Drennan?
