re offense - our obp is now 16th in the bigs - since the first 10 days of the season, it has done nothing but fall
5th in the AL.
3rd in BA.
1st in K rate.

Franmil, expected to be our second most productive hitter, has a slash of 199/255/278 with 57 Ks, more than twice any of our other batters.

He is dragging the entire offense down.

Would you be in favor of dropping Reyes in the batting order until he starts hitting? For example,

Straw CF
Rosario LF
Jose 3B
Naylor 1B
Miller 2B
Gimenez SS
Franmil DH
Kwan/Mercado RF
Hedges/Maile C

Good point about the rainouts messing with the timing of the starters' preparations in addition to the shortened spring traing. Like Antonetti said, the starting pitching should start to pick up and we have seen signs of that.

In the last seven games before last night Guardians' starters have a .194 ERA and a .202 BAA.
Tito has already dropped Franmil.

All the FO can do is wait.

Owen Miller's has been hitting at the Mendoza line since April 16th with a 595OPS. His season stats are like Kwan's where its boosted by an amazing five or six game stretch but really bad otherwise.

If Franmil, Bieber, Plesac performs to their expectations, this team is probably in 1st place.

Going forward, Guardians have to figure out how to at least get 2 of the 3 going.

While Bieber has underperformed relative to expectations, I certainly would not place much blame at his feet for the team's record

Ignoring the particularly ugly game vs. Toronto for a moment. And I am only ignoring it because he definitely deserves the blame for that loss.

7 starts
6.05 Innings per start
2.34 ERA

Guardians are only 4-3 in those 7 starts. And in those 3 losses, Bieber has a 2.50 ERA over 18 innings. The offense has scored 3 runs combined in those 3 losses.

Bieber just pitches on the wrong day !!

Bieber just pitches on the wrong day !!

No kidding. Also received no decisions, even though the Guardians ended up winning with runs in the 9th/extra innings, with the 2 below performances

4/30 @ OAK. 7 IP, 1 ER
5/14 @ MIN. 6 IP, 1 ER

"Waiting it out" is not all they can do, and if you're going to put all your eggs into 1 or 2 hitters' baskets then you're subject to downturns and slumps. Franmil's hitting woes are hurting this team, but no more than any other hitter's woes. You want to score more runs and/or have a more consistent offense then build a better lineup from top to bottom. Anytime you have Clement in LF, Mercado in RF, and Hedges at C your offense is more than likely going to struggle. Throw in Reyes' slump or JRam's for the month of May and you have the makings of a shitty offense.

I can't help but wonder how different the pitchers' approach would be with better, more consistent run support. We're fighting the same demons we have been for the last few years.

Franmil is obviously struggling but his slash line the last three calendar years which happens to coincide with his time in Cleveland:

.247 .315 .461 .776 in 1046 PA with 52 bombs and a 9.1/32.3 BB/K and 1.3 WAR.

Remember that the FO did exactly what many on this board wanted.

They refused to spend prospect capital on a significant upgrade...or upgrades...to this offense.

The plan most on here wanted was to play the kids. Thats what we are watching.

Its also much more accurate to judge a player on overall production, not cherry pick good and bad stretches. Nearly every player has hot and cold streaks. Neither adds or subtracts from overall production over the course of 162 games.

Folks based their positive opinions of Bobby Bradley on his hot start to last season, and Chang on his better last 140 PAs last year...while ignoring everything else. They also based their negative opinions of Amed on his ice cold first month last year, while ignoring the rest of his 2021.

No matter how he has gotten there, Miller has been 40% better than the average MLB hitter this year. He won't stay there, but he has a long pro track record that says he will hit.

Gimenez has been 34% better than average. That also won't stay there, but he has a long pro track record that says that he will be at the very least an average MLB hitter who plays elite defense.

Franmil has been 10% better than average since coming to Cleveland...but he has trended up every year since arriving....3% below average to 16% above average to 28% above average. This follows a fairly normal rise for a young power hitter. But this year he has an OPS+ of 57.

This is what we have....basically Straw-Amed-Jose-Franmil- Naylor-Miller-Gimenez-Kwan-Hedges.

Overall, its basically what most on here wanted....the youngest offense in MLB.

Now we live with it and see what happens.

I'll be sincere and honest, can you quit with this narrative of we didn't want to spend on significant upgrade because that is completely and utterly bull shit so please shut it about it!

We all wanted some type of upgrade, but we wanted it within reason. So if you want to trade Espino in a package for Reynolds or Laureano then you could go for, but you are the only one... it doesn't mean we don't want that player, but we aren't willing to trade our top 5 prospects for one player... Is that wrong to keep our top 5 over acquiring one player?

Since the FO couldn't find a reasonable upgrade via trade within reason, they decided to run with the rookies. Haven't you been reading the GM thread, me, @CDAV45 @Gson have all been putting up weekly trade ideas to upgrade this team. No one here wants to stay put, but at the same time, we aren't willing to give up everything for one player!

if your point is that the front office listens to the fans and then makes moves accordingly its time for the front office to move along

Stay the course. After tonight the next 20 games are against sub-.500 teams. I would drop Reyes to 7th and consider replacing Plesac in the rotation with Morgan if he struggles against Detroit in his next start.
