Pasquantino was removed from the CWSox game with what they called a sore shoulder.. Who gets yanked from a game for a sore shoulder.. more information has to be forthcoming...
The New Karl Pagel!

I don't agree. I think he's doing a solid job defensively at first base and he will only get better with experience. Up until this year he's been splitting time between outfield and first base. Now that he's exclusively a 1B his defense will get better.

Naylor has stolen second and third base in the last week or so. He seems to be running pretty well (for him). If the ankle was still bothering him he wouldn't be stealing bases. He also went from first to third on a single to left center during our big six-run rally in the 8th the other day.

For right now I would like to see Freeman playing every day in place of Hosey, Amed, and Gimenez. Just rotate the three of them at DH every third day to keep them fresh for the stretch run. Miller can play 1B for Naylor once a week against a LHP, not that Miller hits them better than Naylor (Miller .186 vs. lefties, Naylor .203).

Edit: Fangraphs ranks Naylor 12th defensively out of 61 first basemen who have played at least 100 innings at the position this year.
I'm talking about for his health, not due to his quality of play. I think he's fine defensively at 1B. He keeps having days here and there where he has to take off for his ankle which makes me think he's not 100% and he hasn't been doing as well lately either so I guess I just put the two together.

I'd think they would want to see Morris over Vargas in 22... More of the, let's see the older guy with more innings under his belt.
Not if they want to continue stretching Morris out and getting him innings.

OK, but I'm assuming that next season his ankle will be fully recovered. Although I suppose it's also possible it could get worse as he gets older. He's still pretty young, though.

Sure Twins fans love the fact that they managed to score 6 total runs in 4 games vs the team with the 9th worst team ERA in baseball coming into that series, and now are lined up to play in Houston against Verlander, Valdez, and Garcia.

Yeah honestly I see Naylor as more of a platoon 1B in the future and Jones just seems redundant (not only with Naylor but also the LHBs in the OF and all our 3B) so I'd look for him to get moved in the offseason. But I think it helps having depth there because I wouldn't ever want to count on his ankle so in the event that he's still around I think having that 1B versatility is going to be essential. If we're actually talking about guys like Benson and Arias playing 1B we're clearly in a bit of trouble. Not like I don't think they can handle it defensively but I don't think they can provide enough defensive value there to counteract their hitting. Really seem like emergency options...

I feel like we need a right hander that plays 1B and Corner OF with power (even emergency C would be cool too). I think we should be able to get someone on paper if we do a 3/4 for 1 type of deal.

That being stated, we shouldn't make a trade just to make it.

Also, Arias should be able to handle 1B just fine, just like all positions, it's the small things you gotta learn, which is taught with experience/innings

The thing with Arias is if he's providing 10 value units with his defense at SS and -5 with his bat, maybe he'll only be able to provide 3 with his glove at 1B. I just completely arbitrarily made up numbers but I don't have any doubt in his ability to defensively handle 1B. It's just that it's certainly less than ideal positioning and it's hard to make it as a glove first 1B. I don't think he'd be mainly playing 1B like Miller but I just feel like every 1B AB he gets is one that might ideally be given to someone else. Having the 13 position players on the roster with no full time DH gives a lot of flex room for platooning.

If Arias isn't a plus bat, it's pretty easy to say he doesn't have a place here.

I didn't think he was ever really seen as a plus bat, just that he had enough pop to get it to an acceptable level which would play fine with his defensive ability. Question to me is can his bat play at the level of someone like Owen Miller? I think we know he's going to hit the ball less but harder, but will the end result be acceptable?

I'm worried that he has stalled out in development since he's come over so yeah perhaps he'd be best off playing somewhere else. Not like we don't have enough options...

I always thought he was viewed as a valuable MIF bat with power. Someone who had the ceiling of a Correa or a Lindor (after he added the power) at the plate.

If we're questioning if his bat is better than Miller's, we should've traded him already.

I think it's a bit early to give up on a 22 year old shortstop who put up 24 homers in AAA.

Man.

Here is the list of players aged 21 or younger who put up qualified .800+ OPS seasons in AAA in the last 5 seasons:

Luis Urias
Kyle Tucker
Alex Verdugo
Amed Rosario
Adalberto Mondesi
Alek Thomas
Luis Robert
Bo Bichette
Austin Riley
Eloy Jimenez
Ronald Acuna Jr
Carter Kieboom
Gavin Lux
Bobby Witt Jr
Riley Greene
Wander Franco
Luis Garcia
CJ Abrams

And Gabriel Arias.

Some of you are way too quick to pull the hook on prospects.
