2022 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
OPS is probably better than just power/SLG. A few of K machines also take more walks than their peers.

I look at OPS allot, but minor league OPS is so different. They dont have the power yet at that age. So Arias had injury and young, but last year at AAA he was above .800, my understand that is very good for AAA level as they tend to get more power at the major league level.

Also I know age matters, like in basketball recruits, so much to learn, that is why i listen to others opinions on our guys.

Basically Arias can have good power and position flexibility, Roccio everyone is saying could be special, and Giminiez is already showing he is special.

Lots of exciting stuff, also how fun is Kwan and Oscar already and all thsi while having locked up Jose who will once again for the 4th time I believe be a top 5 vote getter for MVP. Can never underestimate a consistent top 5 guy. Trout proves it takes a team, not 1 or 2 players, and we have allot of good players to backup our 1 great player (and a couple of good and great pitchers)

Serious question, what is an acceptable K rate for a player with power like Arias?
What is accomplished in the other AB's is what matters to me. It's like a but-her-face. If the body is bangin' then she doesn't have to be a beauty queen.

Consider how that listing would look if CLE did not have so many guys called up & added to the 40 man during this season..

IMHO there are 2 "locks" to be added and another 10 or so worthy of consideration...

17 worthy and 4 locks

Fangraphs has an undated top 100:

13 Espino
41 Naylor
48 Rocchio
62 Allen (?)
68 Bibee
74 Freeman
85 Jones
99 Valera

Not bad - eight of the top 100. I'm surprised Logan Allen is not only on the list but ahead of Bibee. Allen had a pretty disappointing season if I'm not mistaken. I'm also surprised Nolan Jones is considered a top 100.

I believe they have Gavin Williams just outside the top 100 (a surprise that low in my estimation). He was listed at #9 for the Guardians

Fangraphs has eight Guardians in their top 100. The rest of the A.L. Central combined has seven. Here is the list by number and team.

13 Cleveland
24 Minnesota
41 Cleveland
48 Cleveland
56 Chicago
58 Detroit
62 Cleveland
66 Kansas City
68 Cleveland
70 Minnesota
74 Cleveland
77 Detroit
85 Cleveland
87 Minnesota
99 Cleveland

The next highest is the Twins with three players. The Royals and White Sox only have one. Think about that. We finished 27 games above the Royals this year, their best player is a catcher who will be 33 in May, and they have one guy in the top 100 while we have eight.

The Tigers have two players on the list and were 26 games back.

The Twins were 14 back but at least they have three on the list, not quite eight but it's something, although two of them are ranked 70 and 87. The starters who finished 3rd and 4th in games started this year are 34 and 32 years old (Archer and Gray).

The White Sox at least finished .500 at 11 games back. They have one player on the list at #58. Lance Lynn, Jose Abreu, and Elvis Andrus are 35 years old; Johnny Cueto is 36.

All four of these teams have to be looking at the Guardians, with the youngest roster in baseball and eight players in the top 100, not to mention winning the division by 11 games, and wondering how the F are we going to compete with this team over the next five years?

And this is only part of the story; we also have three rookies starting (Kwan, Oscar, Brennan) who jumped right over the top 100. Maybe Kwan was on the top 100 at the end of last year, but briefly. That doesn't even include "sophomores" like McKenzie, Stephan, Karinchak, Clase, Hentges, Morgan, and Sandlin, or another rookie in Cody Morris.

We have so many positions nailed down by first- or second-year players and guys 26-or-under like Rosario, Gimenez, Josh Naylor, Straw, Bieber, and Quantrill that it's going to be tough for these eight Top-100 guys to break through.

With only a shade over 100 IP as a professional.. knowing what he is.. what he will become lacks certainty..

perhaps..

But, 135 innings for Bibee and 115 for Williams. You can say that Bibee had more of a college career in innings pitch but Williams size is at 6-6 255 is just a matter of being lengthened under a good training program like Guards that will help minimize future injury issues.

Fangraphs just isn’t a very good source for prospect information. Simple as that.

They did have Kwan as the 57th prospect in February which I even laughed at, at the time. But, these boards are sometimes good and sometimes bad. Hard for one guy to do 1,000 of prospects (even top 30 for 30 teams) by himself.
