2022 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Ummmm guys.....

Will Dion..
Lynchburg..

That is all I am going to say about it...

@BimboColesHair as well

Any got a good scouting report on him? He's been good for Cleveland since they drafted him last season and he is a lefty as well.

That's really the best one I have seen for quick info, but I am curious to actually get info from someone here that has watched him lol

Dion was Southlands Conference Pitcher of the year. He's Mini Kershaw (same throwing motion). If he's throwing mid 90s again, he's legit (don't know his actual velo, BCH?)....

From FG:
Dion was throwing hard for a brief stretch while he was at McNeese State but his velo has backed off, though this org has churned out lots of bounce-back guys whose stuff was down before they entered the system. If he can return to sitting 93-96, then he’ll be on the main section of the list.

Dion is listed as 5'8" tall. Just wondering who is the best 5'8" left-handed starting pitcher in the bigs right now. Anybody got a comp?

That being said, he leads the Carolina League with a 1.62 ERA in eight starts. However, he's pitched a total of 33.1 innings in those eight starts, just over 4 innings per start.

What about their other lefty, Rodney Boone, who has a 2.02 ERA in eight starts and 35.2 innings? He's also 22 and is 6'1".

Truth be told... at that level (Low A).. any pitcher that can command and control a curve ball while working off a fastball.. can hang pretty good numbers.. High A and AA will be the determinant.. but, he has the repertoire to be effective where he's act.. his numbers reflect that..

It should also be noted that Low A success is not an absolute predictor of success at subsequent levels.. but it can be..

A good example is UDFA Jaime Árias-Bautista who carved up low A last year. Been bouncing around the higher levels in 2022 and ain't putting up the numbers.

Another decent example would be the 3rd piece in the Ubaldo Jimenez trade - Joe Gardner who really hit a wall in AA.

AA is the true test for most players, but it is nice to see good contributions in A ball... Hopefully these guys can continue in AA to produce.

Actually it was Will Dion carving up low A last night and Tanner Bibee carving up high A last night.

Jaime was having a great game against AA New Hampshire on Tuesday 5/24..

Edit: sorry. I read the post & believed the reference to be to yesterday, not last season.. hence my reply..

Does this guy still have fans around here?

I really wanted DJ to play a few years ago. Never really was giving that firm of a chance. Last year the poor play defensively and whiffs and rumored displeasure with the Guards sealed his fate.

Didn't Tito once say he (DJ) played like the best guy in the OF during ST one year? Guess with Allen, Martin, Bauers, .... it didn't mean much.

Guess you got to look at what they do with promotions. Congrats on Brennan getting the call up. Kind of surprised with Palacios in AAA with Benson and Oscar. But, again watch what they do when Jones comes back. Wouldn't be surprised to see Jones get a lot of 1B work (would indicate a POSSIBLE Miller to OF in offseason and/or possibly Naylor more DH -- with Reyes in 2 year to FA zone). But, all speculation...

But, Kwan, Palacios, Brennan and Valera in LF/RF kind of creates a good problem.... Arias/Gimenez/Freeman/Rocchio at 2B/SS same story ... Jones/Miller/Naylor at 1B/DH same thing ....

I personally don't see us going into 23 without some type of trade for a big leaguer either this trade deadline or next off season.
