2022 Minor League Week 24 Games Thread (9/13 - 9/18/22)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Vargas in and his 1st pitch is a 100 mph FB.

Correction. Arias was thrown out arguing a call at 1B. Sorry, that's my bad for assuming an injury was the cause. I saw the play, watched him shaking his left hand/wrist and then when I came back he wasn't in the game.
CDAV: You’re wrong assumption is easily forgiven but that avatar. Sheesh.

Uhhhhhh my avatar is f'ing awesome.

Somebody tell @sportscoach that we don't need to trade for a BP arm this offseason. Vargas and Herrin are money!

Until we have legit setup man being forced to the minors cause we have too many of them, then we don't have enough bullpen arms lol

3 FB by Vargas. 100, 99 and 100. Breaking ball is absolutely filthy.
Lenny Torres could be considered in the same light as C-Var, Gad-man, & Sand-man... all arms that have a chance to truly bolster the pen led by the top of the Clase....

..at least if Lenny gets his health back to where he was when he was drafted.. sort of the best drop and drive prospect in the Indians/Guardians system..

If he was back just a month earlier from injury, this would have solved a lot of our bullpen issues. If he was able (almost there w 2 runs in last 6 outings but in last 4 outings at Columbus, 6 inn, 4 hits, 2 walks, 12 ks and 1 HR WOW) to come up to bigs like Kar in his first year (8ks 5 inn 1 run) type guy, this would relieve a lot of pressure from Clase, Stephan, Kar and Hentges back end. With trying to win games, that is my biggest worry - not Sat and innings to eat as that was solvable in other ways. But, with 18 games in 17 days that we want to win the most as we can, the stress is really on backend of pen. With Vargas, Sandlin and Santos to pull from for 6th/7th inning work, that would have give Tito a lot of flexibility.

But, you got me intrigued

As the roster moves will probably be
Today -- Gaddis up, McCarty down
Tomorrow -- Gaddis down, Curry up
Sat - McCarty up as 29th man
Tuesday -- Curry down, Civale re-activated

But, you got me thinking Vargas should come up on Sunday to help with Morris ... and just leave him there as a pen of Clase, Stephan, Karinchek, Vargas, Hentges, Santos, Sandlin, Morgan and Shaw as you throw-in would help in a lot of tough situations that you are trying to win down the road.

Can he pitch? Or is he still just throwing and learning?

What is the difference for Vargas? "Pitch" usually refers to able to change pitches, locations and set up hitters for a starter. A thrower is more of a reliever, let his FB go. Need to look at his command .... haven't seen a game but I assume it is okay (K to BB is good) but a few high BB numbers as location is last to come back for TJS guys (work in progress). And, he second pitch a slider, thought Bimbo refer to it as one of the best in system already, if I am not mistaken. He will make a good to great reliever at some point ... argument is when.

Anthony Gose throws. He might be able to hit 100, but he's trash. Nick Hagadone was another guy who was a thrower that never developed into a pitcher.

I need Vargas to be able to effectively use his talent to get guys out at the next level.

So, we all know Vargas has a hell of an arm.

You should probably watch him to get a better understanding. Yes he throws gas, but that breaking pitch is f'n nasty and he controls it better than his FB.

I'd like to know what Bimbo says about Herrin. I've watched him several times now and I like what I see. He needed to harness his control a bit and it appears that he has done that recently so........ I said it awhile back, but he has similar stuff to Hentges with a big more movement.

I haven't watched him at all--hence the question.
He's fun to watch for sure. I especially like that he doesn't appear to be going max effort at all. He's controlled with an easy, fluid motion.

If I have a knock on him it will be that he has to locate his FB better than average if he has to lean on it because it appears to be pretty straight. Just keep it out of the middle is really all he needs to do and he'll be lights out IMO.

Herrin sits 95-97 and all his shit moves. We're looking at 2 very valuable BP arms going forward.

Doesn't Torres have a good change up as well as the FB/slider combo?
