2022 Minor League Week 24 Games Thread (9/13 - 9/18/22)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Until we have legit setup man being forced to the minors cause we have too many of them, then we don't have enough bullpen arms lol
Vargas is definitely a capable setup man so........

But he wasn't forced to be in the minors... and until we see him in the bigs and pitching, he isnt apart of the legit setup man category in my mind.

Well good thing that whatever is "in your mind" doesn't mean anything. Your assumption that they need to actively pursue a set up this offseason is wrong unless something "falls into their lap". Now, if you're talking minor league deals then I'm all in on that idea, but to think that they "need" BP help is not accurate at this time. You're on the verge of having guys stuck in Columbus because there is no room in the ML pen now.

Lenny Torres could be considered in the same light as C-Var, Gad-man, & Sand-man... all arms that have a chance to truly bolster the pen led by the top of the Clase....

..at least if Lenny gets his health back to where he was when he was drafted.. sort of the best drop and drive prospect in the Indians/Guardians system..

Would agree (relief role sb his path) but running out of time. With 2019 being his TJS year, his location should have come back by now (know there was some family issues this year). But, his K/W ratio is still in the 1.5 range. Even last outing is 3 BB and 0ks. For control grade, I look at the K/BB as a quick indicator and then an actual game to see if a good k/BB is just overpowering inexperienced hitters or really able to locate the corners on at least FB (if curve sometimes hits bottom of zone and other times in dirt like a Kar - that just messes with hitters and good problem to have). Torres doesn't even pass first smell test.

@Gson

I love your commitment to Torres, but he clearly ain't making it... Wouldn't surprised at all if this is his last rodeo with us.

Still young, so maybe he sticks around but any positive movement is pure gravy at this point. He's a discounted lotto ticket.

Doesn't Torres have a good change up as well as the FB/slider combo?
@CDAV45

not really.. his CU was a WIP..but had shown some fade and tumble.. it was always about his athleticism coupled with a very quick arm and a same tunnel SL that made him interesting...

It was in 2019 that he was injured with the TJS... then the pandemic..

The thing is.. he's still just 21.. he won't be 22 until the 2022 season is over.. He's like Nick Sandlin in that he brings a different look.. more like Sonny Gray/Tom Siever.. but is a two pitch pitcher that shows a CH once in a while..

We'll see if he stays.. but.. from the time he was drafted.. he had RHRP written in his stars..

Good to hear about Vargas ... CDAV and I were just talking about if it could happen. Thought it would be after Twins (maybe for Sun Morris). Adds some depth with Santos and Sandlin in that almost backend role (6th/7th inning guy) so Kar/Steph/Hent can rotate days in the 7th-9th role depending on Clase status for the day.

Lenny has been chosen to participate in the AFL... perhaps you might revise?

So was Damon Casetta-Stubbs who was released this year. The 4 pitchers we sent to the AFL in 2022 were- Stubbs, Turner, Pinto and Tully. Wouldn't be surprised if the remaining 3 aren't around in 2023.

He clearly has talent and is rather young... Reminds me of Trey Haley from a current career standpoint. So lets hope he can find it...
