Secondary star to who though? I think Mobley has a higher ceiling as a star than Garland. For me the question is if LeBron would stunt that growth of Mobley or accelerate it. If he is willing to help Mobley really hit his peak potential, thats what I would want him to take a step back for.
To Cedi of course

But serious answer, he needs to be here as a piece of the offense and not the offense. If we run LeIso, that's detrimental for the development of all our young guys

In this hypothetical scenario, I would start Garland Agbaji LeBron Markk and Mobley - gives plenty of shooting as well as interior scoring, and bring in Allen Rubio LeVert Okoro Cedi Wade and Stevens from the bench - depending on the match-up.
No, we're not gonna bring a young all star off the bench lol.

He signed an extension in 2020 after they won a championship in the bubble.
He really just extended for 1 year, and it was to ensure Davis signed his own 5 year max extension a day later.

I wonder if things aren't going well for the Lakers if they would trade LeBron at the deadline to us just to avoid the pending free agency BS. LeVert and Love for LeBron, the Lakers might flip both Love and LeVert immediately. If the Lakers aren't making the playoffs what's the point in keeping him around to lose him for nothing.

I also think Sexton fits in better than LeVert with LeBron. I think Agbaji might end up starting SG if LeBron comes back and Sexton is a 6th man that can play very well with LeBron at the point when Garland is off the floor.
They want to see him break Kareem's scoring record in a Laker's jersey and I'm not sure he gets it done by the deadline.

PG Garland, Rubio
SG LeVert, Agbagi (Sexton to free agency)
SF LeBron, Markkanen, Okoro, Stevens
PF Mobley, Markkanen, Wade
C Allen, Lopez
A LeBron pushing 40 is strictly a playmaking PF (or small ball C), bullying people near the basket, taking turnaround fadeaways and hitting spot up shooters from the high post. In other words... he'd be taking the job Mobley is being groomed for.

The idea of LBJ playing with two non-shooting, paint-clogging bigs in Allen and Mobley AND one very shaky outside shooter (LeVert) is DOA anyway.

Just a weird, weird lineup.

I dunno, he just did this with the Lakers last year

If you replace Levert with Agbaji and Mobley learns to shoot better which I think he already is, it's not a big deal, but I do think you sub out JA for Markannen first.

Last year LeBron was over his career averages in points (30.3), FG percentage (52.4), 3-point percentage (35.9), free throw percentage (75.6), rebounding (8.2), and blocks (1.1). He's also the best passer in the league.

There's nothing he can't do and he's forgotten more than most players know. He sees things before they happen. Forget about positions, putting him on the floor with Garland, LeVert, Mobley and Allen would create an unbeatable team. Or put Markkanen in for LeVert - LeBron would destroy any shooting guard who tried to defend him.

Or he could stay in LA and finish out his career with Westbrook, Unibrow (who is hurt half the time), and a bunch of vet minimum guys and hope they can slip into the playoffs with the 8th seed, which they failed to do last year.

Honestly, I'd still like to see him in the postseason because the eye test indicates he's fading and you don't know if it's chill mode, or whether father time is starting to take his toll. That year the Lakers were a first round out, he didn't exactly take over the series. Maybe it's because AD went down, maybe it's not. But $40M per is just a ton of cap to use on someone his age, we'd have to dump good young players to clear it, and I'm not sure how eager I'd be to do that for a guy who's 38 and refuse to take any type of discount.
