2022 Season | Series #10 | Guardians @ White Sox | May 9-11, 2022

I love the constant moaning about the way Tito uses his pitchers...lol.

In the seventh inning on Monday night, Plasec was sailing along...after the first he had gone 5 IP, giving up only two singles and a walk. He began the seventh with two ground outs...except the second one wasn't, because it was booted.

The next batter hit what would have been a harmless double that plated an unearned run, and....

It was TITO'S fault.

Tonight Quantrill was sailing along in the sixth, having given up one run. But the defense dropped two foul pops, the second of which would have ended the inning. The next batter hit a homer that plated two runs, both of which should have been unearned, and...

It was TITO'S fault.

Our bullpen would be reduced to ashes if Tito pulled a starter every time some of our board members wanted him to.

Our defense has given up too many runs unearned and others that should have been unearned. Not only does it cost runs, it runs up pitch counts, neither of which are the managers fault.

This org has built teams around its starting pitching and been very successful doing so.

Paul Brown used to get criticized for depending so heavily on his fullback, first Marion Motley, then Jim Brown. He replied...

'When you have a big gun, shoot it.'

Our big gun is our rotation.

Chang isn't officially back on the 40 man roster so they had an open spot, but now they will have to release someone once Chang is healthy since he was officially added to the 40 man roster not added via the Covid exception.

Also Rosario is out in LF... it's been a minute since he was out there
Sure will and hopefully Chang gets the same treatment that Bradley did. There is no place for Yu on this team right now, or should I say shouldn't be.

We will see...

Vince Velasquez goes against Civale this afternoon in the rubber match. Velasquez is a 29-year-old righty with a record of 2-2, 3.97. He has allowed just one earned run in his last two starts covering 10.2 innings. He's 33-46 for his career, the last seven years of which were in the National League.

Josh Naylor is 2-for-3 against him and Rosario is 3-for-10. Amed is 6-for-9 this series, mostly going to right field. I'm surprised they haven't reverse shifted on him by now.

Velasquez is yet another RHP with crazy reverse splits. Righties are hitting .333/1.023 off him against .170/.463 by lefties. I know it's a small sample but this is another case of a RHP dominating lefties. Have they all been learning a pitch in the off-season that lefties can't hit?

With RISP opponents are hitting just .190 off him. All three of his home runs have come with the bases empty.

Aaron Civale has a 9.45 ERA after five starts. The explanation is he was working on a new slider and it has affected his other pitches.

His last start was more encouraging. He gave up a 2-run homer in the first inning to Vlad Guerrero (no shame there) and then retired 14 of the next 16 Blue Jays before tiring in the 6th inning. He came within one pitch of getting through the 6th, giving up a 2-out, 2-run double to a lefty on a 3-2 count.

Hopefully he can build off that start and have a similar outing tonight without making any bad mistakes that get hit out.

Civale is another righty with a big reverse split. Right-handed hitters are batting .388 while lefties are at .243. Having to face dangerous right-handed hitters like Tim Anderson, Jose Abreu, and Luis Robert will be a serious challenge tonight. And the lefty Ben Sheets has two home runs in the first two games of his series, both on hanging sliders by Plesac and Quantrill.

This is a big game for Civale as he tries to get back on track. He has to figure out how to be more effective against right-handed hitters; a .388 BA isn't going to cut it. But last year righties hit .257/.802 against him. He had a reverse split last year as well.

So it's a starter who has been extremely effective his last two starts against one who has been getting lit up since his first start. It doesn't look good for the G-men but look what they did Monday night. Anything can happen.

Last night the Sox got Owen Miller out three times on fastballs up and in. He has a propensity to chase high fastballs. His base hit came on a pitch down in the zone and over the plate.

If Owen can develop a little more plate discipline and lay off the high heat his numbers would be even more impressive.

Tonight I expect the Sox to continue busting him up and in. I'm sure he's seen the videos of his at-bats last night and this has not escaped his scrutiny. I'll be looking to see if he can lay off the high smoke tonight.

The Sox have been getting Franmil out on low breaking balls, which he has been totally unable to hit. They set it up with high fastballs out of the zone which he can only foul off if he chases. He needs to get back to what he was doing against the Blue Jays. After getting 9 hits in 4 games against the Jays he's 0-for-8 with a walk against the White Sox.

Straw is 0-for-14 with a walk in his last four games. We need to get Straw, Reyes, and Miller going. We can't count on Naylor to drive in 8 runs every game - he's just not consistent!

So Straw but Rosario is back at SS and we got the dependable Reyes in RF ...

I sorta wish they would keep Rosario in LF for a extended time frame, unless they trying to keep his trade value up……Looking at up you Cardinals/ Angels

It didn’t rush thru the roster that bad the first time……
I'm just speculating. I know a lot of people who have come down with a "mild" strain of it at work and in general. Seems like an efficient spreader.

This a terrible defensive lineup today.
