2022 Season | Series #2 | Guardians @ Reds | April 12-13, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
As long as Reyes is on the Guardians' roster he'll be in the lineup other than a day off now and again as CATS mentioned. I know he'll right the ship and have his typical hot streak, but he's a huge disappointment to me. He came to camp unprepared unlike everyone else who showed up in shape and ready to roll. It's BS and uncalled for IMO.

Mercado's power output so far is a pleasant surprise, but he's not hitting that well and we've only played the Royals and the Reds. There are a few guys that I don't think are long for this roster and Mercado is one of them.

You know Mercado's BABIP is at .133 plus he likely is a platoon with Naylor once he comes back right?

Mercado has hit some bombs, but everybody overlooks his .200 BA and his track record vs same handed pitchers. Hopefully, nobody sees him as a regular who is gonna knock 35 over the fence.
Mercado is a corner outfielder now so he may have altered his approach to go for more power at the expense of batting average. He's still chasing too many bad pitches but he seems to have gotten stronger and put on some muscle. I like the way he was able to hit a ground ball to second with two strikes on him to move the runner from second to third with nobody out.

If he can lay off the high fastballs at the letters and the breaking balls in the dirt he could do some damage. The grand slam was a 3-2 changeup at the knees and another HR came on a fastball at the top of the zone. No walks and 7 K's in 25 at-bats is not good, however.

Reyes is the DH...period.

He may get a day off now and then...but he is the DH.

Or his .200 OBP because of 0 BB vs 7 KO

Its not because Franmil didn't come in prepared. Its because he is cold after having a decent ST.

It happens, esp with guys who can be streaky. Sometimes they start hot, sometimes they don't.

I think in the 20 years I've been on internet forums, I've seen this conversation every year.

Whats the matter with Thome? Whats the matter with Victor? Whats the matter with Kluber. (Almost annually) Whats the matter with JRam, for crying out loud?

Victor once went two MONTHS to start a season...175 PAs...with a BA just above the Mendoza line and an OPS barely above .600....then went six months up to the following May with an OPS close to 1.000.

Like Thome famously said when he was criticized for starting cold...

'Get back to me at the end of the season.'

BTW....

That season that Victor started so poorly ended up being the second best season he had with us and in his career.

Reyes' performance thus far has nothing to do with my aggravation with him. He claims he wants to play some OF. If that is the case then I would think that he would show up to camp looking like he worked toward his aspirations. It didn't and doesn't appear that he has done that, but I could be very wrong. In fact, Bimbo says I'm way off base so I'd go with that. There is no doubt in my mind that he will hit like he always has. There will be times when he's carrying this team's offense on his shoulders. I love his offensive profile, but the more time passes the less I like a strictly DH player.

Well.. what I'm saying is.. if he's not hitting at all.. Next Up

His last two AB's against the Reds.. were both encouraging.. and disappointing.. the one Farmer caught was smoked.. More to come.. it's only a dozen or so AB's..
