Rubber game tomorrow as Bieber goes against RHP Kevin Gausman, 8-8, 2.91. Gausman is in his 10th season at age 31 and is on his fifth team. His career record is 72-80, 3.92. His last two seasons he's really upped his game with ERA's a full run lower than his career average.
Gausman went six innings against the G's in May, allowing one run. His home ERA is 4.19 against 1.83 on the road. Hopefully that holds true on Sunday. He has a strong reverse split as righties are hitting .294 as opposed to .240 for lefties.
In his last two starts he pitched 14 innings allowing 7 hits, no runs, 1 walk, and 15 K's. He's on a roll at the moment, but both those games were on the road. In his last home start he gave up 5 runs in 4.2 innings, so we'll see which pitcher we get.
The Jays have scored two runs in 17 innings against the Guardians so hopefully Beebs can keep that going. It's really impressive since the Jays are the 5th highest scoring team in baseball.
Bieber has allowed 3 runs in his last 3 starts, so this is a matchup of two very hot pitchers. Bieber got blown away by the Jays in May, allowing 7 runs in 3.1 innings, which I believe was the worst start of his career by far. I'm sure he'll be looking for some payback tomorrow.
Until today that was the only game the G's lost to Toronto this year.
Everything points to another close, low-scoring game tomorrow. In those games I believe the team that can hit home runs has the advantage. We saw that play out today.
