2022 Season | Series #40 | Guardians @ Mariners | Aug. 25-28, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Meh Brennan's contact oriented skillset might translate better to the bigs than Benson etc but he's been clearly a less productive offensive player than many players including Benson and Jones that IMO calling him up just reeks of "throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" which isn't exactly something we have the luxury of doing with the roster situation. It takes a little extra commitment to claim someone in the Rule 5 than it does off waivers so keeping some of these guys in AAA just might be the answer going into next season unless we're really sure we want them in the lineup and I don't really know why we'd think that's the case with Brennan. Fans have already turned on Benson and Freeman with less than 70 PA between them. We can't afford to keep doing this. Work with the guys we've got up there see what they got before rotating the next round in there...
well, the fans arent the problem - thru 70 pa's benson looks like he's never hit in his life and freeman looks like he's never played the game before - but sss and still have hope for both
-
to be sure, we have stuck with some guys - miller's at 400 pa's and? gonzalez now at 200+ - shoot, and w/o getting into the board controversy, straw's at 400+ - have those guys shown to be future every day guys? maybe miller needs to spend time here in cbus to start '23 - wouldnt be the first guy to come thru in his third try - not sure what to think about straw with his 1400 pa's - hoping this is just an aberattionaly bad year - have no idea what to think of oscar
-
weird time with the roster, the want/need to look at new guys, oh and btw, the first place position heading into september

What is the alternative?

Free-swinging Rosario and OGonz are going to probably keep free swinging the rest of this year and beyond and so far what they've produced has been worthy of starter status. I don't see that changing any time soon.
I'd like to see these guys adjust their 2 strike approach back to what they were doing earlier in the season. Be free swinging for the first 2 strikes, shorten up and make contact for strike 3. And Andres also needs to get the high pitch chasing more under control.

There's still plenty of time to make adjustments, and baseball is all about making continuous and successful adjustments.

Our batting order against LHP has been and still seems to be a weak link in our path to winning games. Rosario has fallen off the edge of the earth lately, hopefully he gets his stroke back as quickly as it left. Even Kwan has been striking out more than what we're used to seeing.

Call me biased but I think Naylor picks that foul ball off the netting cleanly that Miller botched. It's a tough play but for Naylor the game has slowed down for him at the 1st base position, Miller just seems like a duck out of the water there with everything he does. Those potential outs that turn into extra pitches that turn into HR balls have messed up some otherwise well pitched games. Maybe the pitching coach should go out and talk to the pitcher every time we have one of those situations.
we need to be do better than naylor and miller at 1b - and civale needs to buck up and pick up his teammates after an unlucky play - his pitch to more said loser all over it

Actually a tough match up for Guardians.
Good upcoming team, glad to see the O's have such a bright future after the years of pure shit(just not against us, of course). Visiting the sister Labor Day weekend, it's against the A's, but still going to a game, haven't been to Camden since the year it opened('93 off the top of my head?). Only nose bleeds available, which is good for them.

Beautiful stadium. Be sure to wander along Eutaw Street behind right field if you have a chance.

Don’t we have a hitting coach? What about a third-base coach? It can’t be that are players keep making the same mistakes. Do we have Joel Skinner manning all positions?

I wonder what Valaika is telling Straw and whether Straw is listening?

I envied that park as soon as it opened. In my opinion, the finest retro structure in MLB.
Do they still call it Camden, or have they sold the name yet? Perfect, nostalgic, modern, and possibly the best single Thing in Baltimore.

Guardians go 3-3 on this west coast road trip against two very good teams and I'm fine with that. Now they have six at home against the Orioles and Mariners. I'm good with 3-3 there, too. We don't match up well against the M's with their two left-handed starters plus Castillo and Clement are really good righties.

We managed 7 runs in 4 games and one of them was the ghost runner in the 11th inning.

The last two games the M's scored all seven of their runs on the long ball. Five home runs to one for the Guardians.

Civale pitched a great game except for two pitches, and with this offense two bad pitches gets you a loss half the time.

As usual the Guardians were helpless against a lefty starter. As usual, Owen Miller bumbled around at first base, although I can't blame him because he's a middle infielder who was given a first baseman's mitt without a clue as to how to play the position. But he should be able to catch a pop-up with a mitt that big.

To be fair, Kwan also failed to catch a pop-up so I assume Miller also lost it in the sun. Unfortunately, Civale threw one too many curveballs to Dylan Moore, this one with two out and two strikes. Moore owns the Guardians with 5 home runs and 4 doubles in 14 games. Last year in a four-game series in May he came in hitting .157 and had two doubles, two home runs, and 5 RBI's. The guy owns us. Civale walked the lefty Frazier to get to Moore, and Moore made him pay after Miller botched his pop-up.

Amed got the Golden Sombero. I'm not sure how many pitches he chased out of the zone. Probably at least 8 in his 4 at-bats. I'll go back and check later.

I get it, we don't match up well with them, but come playoffs, what's the feel good story then? Do we keep saying we don't match up well with them and accept defeat to just not matching up well with them lol?

0 runs is unacceptable
Owen Miller's gaffes are unacceptable
Straw's usage needs toned down

I think we match up just fine, just need to play better including, Rosario, Jose, Naylor, Andres.

They are not some powerhouse. Our 4th and 5th starter pitched very damn good.

Series could've been 3-1 Guardians way too. Game 1 was a missed opportunity.

I'd like to know what you base this on? While I can't say that Brennan will be productive if/when called up, I'm certain he'll touch the baseball a helluva lot more than Benson. I haven't given up on Benson at all, I really like his potential, but he's not ready.

Brennan should have been up a month ago, but the 40 man roster and who's already on it made him a non-option which I think is dumb. Brennan as our CFer most likely makes us a better team. Maybe significantly because Straw is a burden.

Whatever happens I'm not overly concerned tbh. These things will happen at some point and going forward this team is going to continue to get better because guys like Straw and Hedges will be replaced with better, younger, more talented players. I prefer to just move forward with the inevitable.
