2022 Season | Series #48 | Guardians @ Rangers | Sep. 23-25, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I like it. At least you know one more of us!
I would rather have had Spiders, but you cannot win them all…very happy for the change in any case.
You step on Spiders

The Guardindians go for another sweep this afternoon and a clinch of the A.L. Central as Aaron Civale goes against Cole Ragans. Civale has turned his season around. In his first six starts his ERA was an embarassing 9.85. The players' strike or lockout or whatever obviously hurt him more than anybody. In his 11 starts after May 13 his ERA is 3.25.

Cole Ragans is a 24-year-old rookie left-hander making his 8th big league start. He's 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA. The longest he's gone is five innings and he usually doesn't go that far. In 30 innings he's allowed 47 hits and walks against 22 K's. He's allowed nine runs in his last two starts and opponents are hitting .300/.835 the second time through the order. They usually don't let him face batters three times; only 13 at-bats so far.

We could still miss the playoffs if we finish 0-10 while the White Sox finish 10-0 so nobody can relax just yet. They may be called the Guardians but this is still Cleveland, Ohio.

There was no reason for the name change. Nothing was offensive about the name and history/tradition means a lot to fans. It's central to sports. Name change was always going to be dud and worse than Indians.
HG, I understand what you're saying. My take is that I don't care what the team is called because what I care about/follow is this team, but I think the new logos are shit. In another year or 3 the conversation will be dead because we'll have made the adjustment. It's not the first time a team changed its name afterall. Hopefully the logos improve in that time too.

Very much against name change but now I am over it. Maybe because G’s are winning. That is probably a big part of. But name and even the logo have grown on me
It is a unique name. And if you look hard enough you can see the Indians in the Guardians name. I grew up from the early 70’s with the Indians. They are like an old friend that has passed on. Missed. Always remembered
I’m over the name change as well. Still don’t like it, but whatever. I’ll call them the Indians, The Tribe, , the G’s or just the Cleveland Baseball team. I may eventually come around, but whatever. I’m enjoying the season and I don’t think it’s a big deal what I call them.

I wish they would have made a big free agent splash in a sense cause that would have helped sell the name some... They still get called the Indians by my dad, so you hear us both say Cleveland since we mess it up a lot in person otherwise lol

Or market the kids that's close to coming. Get people prepared for how good Steven Kwan is, get his name out there, promote who he is and what he's about. That way the fans can treat him as such a FA signing.

They're doing that with Bo, Valera, Bibee, Gavin though. Running commercials in-between games.

Lets see now....

We are not only a game from clinching the division, we are running away with it.

Depending how you choose to measure it, we have a top three league pitching staff.

Depending again on how you choose to measure it we have a top two defense.

Depending on how you choose to measure it, we have one of the top two base running teams.

We make better contact and put the ball in play better than any team in baseball.

As of right now, only one player isn't under control next year. Only three more for 2024. Only one more in 2025.

We have between six and eight prospects ranked in various top 100 lists.

At the moment, there is only one glaring hole in the roster, a RH bat capable of plus production at 1B/DH/RF.

We have an extremely low payroll, a ton of flexibility, and a new minority owner.

But, we spend an outlandish amount of space complaining about lack of power, lack of attendance, and the new name.

We love to bask in feigned misery....lol.

And these side convos end up taking pages and pages of discussion in game threads, lol.

We don’t think each team has one that needs individual breaking?

Guardindians would have certainly added to the story in ‘16 if the Cavs hadn’t won theirs just before.

I really don’t think any teams are cursed. The Browns and Cavs lost to all time greats in the 80s. The Browns have been mismanaged since. The Indians were mismanaged for 40 years. They just did not get the breaks in extras of the two game 7s.

Small market teams have small windows. And the Browns have been poorly managed until now. The Guardians have the misfortune of being in the AL which is the better league. The way they are run, we could get a WS in the next 20 years though.

On this historic day, I can't believe people are still moaning about the name change.
I was raised on Chief Wahoo. Did I want the name change? No. But I can understand and can live with it.
I'm a baseball fan and I root for the team in my home town that I can trace all the way back to Shoeless Joe.
I don't care if they were called the Cleveland Shitheads if they won the World Series.

To the fans still tied to the Indian name: Do you even know any Indians? Are you from the reservation?
What attracts you to the specific name Indians?

In your sphere*.

Feel like that’s the caveat in this. In your sphere you know very few people who like the Guardians rebrand.

Fact still remains that it was the overwhelming favorite amongst focus groups over the 3+ years of hammering things out. 3:1 over the Spiders.

A majority of people absolutely like it or it doesn’t effect them whatsoever, which is a win when you rebrand down to the team name.
It seems whether people like the change or not aligns with certain political affiliations, I'll leave it at that. I'm on record as always disliking Chief Wahoo since I was a kid watching games at the Muni. A small part of me thinks Spiders would have been cooler and still linked to the history but I've totally warmed up to Guardians and I look forward to the logos evolving to be better.

None of that matters as much as the fact that this team has blown the doors off of any wildest expectations I might have had going into the season. Not only division winners but doing so going away, developing their own swagger. I never would have dreamt it. The future is so bright but we can bask in the present. I hope their confidence and level of performance holds up in the playoffs.

I’m not close to any actual Native Americans, but I have talked and interacted with many over my 39 years on the planet.
I’ve really only had a handful of discussions regarding the Indians Baseball team and none of them really seemed to care. One of them even mention seeing a protest on TV and was embarrassed by it.

As for the name. It was my passion as a kid. I was obsessed with the Indians and had Chief Wahoo all over my room. It was a major part of my life. Seeing it gone forever just hits a part of me.

I will say this as well. If I grew up and the Cleveland G’s were the name I grew up with and the decided to change it to the Cleveland Indians, I have a feeling I’d be equally upset and refuse to call it that for a long time as I am now.
