2022 Season | Series #48 | Guardians @ Rangers | Sep. 23-25, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I like the new name and logo. And a lot of people I know have come around on it. Saying Indians sounds weird now. The Guardians have given us the best regular season of Cleveland baseball since 1995. I think they got this one right.

Go Guards.
Sure the baseball is a good product and ultimately the most important part is Cleveland. But there's no way any new name was going to be superior to the tradition and history of Indians.

On this historic day, I can't believe people are still moaning about the name change.
I was raised on Chief Wahoo. Did I want the name change? No. But I can understand and can live with it.
I'm a baseball fan and I root for the team in my home town that I can trace all the way back to Shoeless Joe.
I don't care if they were called the Cleveland Shitheads if they won the World Series.

To the fans still tied to the Indian name: Do you even know any Indians? Are you from the reservation?
What attracts you to the specific name Indians?
It's just history and tradition. The fact that it was the team name during my entire childhood and while growing up. I know in our culture today things like tradition and history are almost seen as negatives and change is always superior but when it comes to sports especially tradition means alot.

This thread really got sidetracked, didn't it?

Since the break the G's (or whatever you prefer to call them) are 39-23, second best in the A.L. to Houston at 45-17. That gives me some hope they could win their first playoff series, especially since all the games will be at home and they'll have been home for a couple of weeks with plenty of time to rest key players and set up their rotation.

I’m not close to any actual Native Americans, but I have talked and interacted with many over my 39 years on the planet.
I’ve really only had a handful of discussions regarding the Indians Baseball team and none of them really seemed to care. One of them even mention seeing a protest on TV and was embarrassed by it.

As for the name. It was my passion as a kid. I was obsessed with the Indians and had Chief Wahoo all over my room. It was a major part of my life. Seeing it gone forever just hits a part of me.

I will say this as well. If I grew up and the Cleveland G’s were the name I grew up with and the decided to change it to the Cleveland Indians, I have a feeling I’d be equally upset and refuse to call it that for a long time as I am now.

Chief Wahoo was a major part of your life?

Chief Wahoo was a major part of your life?

Lol

He meant that he grew up a fan of the Indians and Chief Wahoo was their symbol, so it became apart of his life...

Change isn't east regardless and something like this isn't simple just to change over....

I am glad the Guardians came out and play solid baseball plus they are an up and coming team...

At least we don't have people coming in here saying the name Indians was meant to honor Native Americans.

Can we stop doing this?

The team has a name. We're the Guardians. It isn't up for debate or open to interpretation.
Um... Pretty sure, since he starts every single game thread, that he meant what nickname you want to use (Gs, Guard, KinderGuardians, G Unit, etc.) And not about still calling them by their dead name. Lighten up, Francisco.

I call them the Guardinias.
