Four games, seven runs. Seven losses in a row. First time swept in four games by the Angels in 40 years. Have we hit bottom yet?
Let's not kid ourselves, the Angels are equal or better than the G's at every position except third base, and even there they have a good player as Rendon has been in the top five of the MVP voting three times.
We don't have an Ohtani and we certainly don't have a Trout. Tyler Ward in RF is hitting .381/1.271. Brandon Marsh in center is hitting .340/.943. Matt Duffy at 2B is hitting .303/.728.
We didn't even see their best starter this series, Noah Syndergaard. Patrick Sandoval has pitched 15 innings and still has not allowed an earned run. Loup has allowed 1 hit in 9.2 innings out of the pen.
On another topic, how many bad or stupid throws to bases are we going to see Guardians pitchers make this year? It's getting so every time a G's pitcher throws to second base I'm expecting a wild throw. My theory is that pitchers are used to throwing a baseball in a very deliberate, unhurried way using a specific and well-rehearsed set of actions. When they have to throw the ball in a hurry using a totally different motion it messes them up.
As hard as it is for the G's to score runs it's frustrating to see them giving runs away on defensive lapses.
At least Franmil put the ball in play two at-bats in a row, and both were deep flies to center. He's also not chasing the breaking balls down and away. Maybe he's getting close to pulling out of it.
Unfortunately, we're seeing a lot of chasing bad pitches by the rest of the lineup. Jose struck out on a change-up that was a foot outside. Miller fouled off a lot of fastballs at the letters and in his last at-bat chased a slider way out of the zone.
Big difference between the G's and Angels in plate discipline.
This season is all about finding out who will be part of the future and who will not. So on we go.
