2022 Season - Week 1 - Browns @ Panthers - 1 pm on CBS

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Quick observations from the game--

- Good news: This offense should be explosive when Watson returns..

- Bad news: This offense has Brissett for the next 10 games..

- Stefanski knows how to scheme players open and it was the case for most of the game.. I do think moving forward some more slants, screens, and quick rhythm passes to get Brissett going would help... The passing game seemed slow developing and out of sync, which could be because of Watson taking most reps with the 1s all camp, and Brissett having little actual time with the starting lineup..

- Brissett did just enough to help the Browns win the game but if he could have done more earlier, the game could have been put away much sooner... Brissett didn't make any mistakes and only took one sack, but he failed to convert on some key downfield shots... Hit one or two of those and the Browns score 30+ easily.. He was 2/7 on throws 10+ on outside right and outside left but interestingly enough was 4/6 between the numbers.. You have to hit on a few of those to keep the defense honest but also chunk plays are a huuuge indicator of offensive success..

- In watching the game, I thought Stefanski should have called some more bootlegs and play action to get the defense moving and Brissett more in a rhythm.. However, Brissett fared poorly on PA passes going only 1/5 as opposed to 17/29 with no play action..

- Chubb looked like he was at a different speed on Sunday.. I don't ever remember him being that explosive.. But, him and Hunt were both fully rested and healthy compared to being banged up for most of the year last year..

- I really think DPJ can be a very solid #2 receiver moving forward.. He consistently makes tough catches and produces when the ball is thrown his way.. Credit to Schwartz for finding a way to be productive as well.. Hopefully he can build off this momentum..

- The defense looked really stout most of the game.. The frustrating part was 3-4 chunk plays (Baker TD, late sub that lead to 50 yard pass gain and the botched fumble McCaffrey run), largely based off of blown coverages/mistakes, led to the Panthers scoring drives.. Otherwise, the run game had nothing going and the pass game got nothing easy..

- Props to Emerson for stepping up Week 1 and filling in for Greedy... I really like the physicality that he plays with..

- I am a bit surprised the starting defensive line played so much and they didn't rotate the interior defensive line much at all.. The Browns built up their depth on the edges to keep Garrett and Clowney fresh.. The fact that Winovich didn't see the field and Rochell got a few snaps leads me to believe Winovich may still be battling an injury... I also don't need to see Taven Bryan play as many snaps as Garrett and Clowney..

- I really can't fathom why Felton has the yips when fielding punts.. He just doesn't seem to have any confidence back there and I'm not sure you wait for him to cost you a possession before taking him out..

- God I love Cade York..

This might have been because there were so few snaps in general? They'd probably have given them more breaks on longer drives, but there were only 53 snaps total so maybe the staff thought the players were still fresh.

Went to the game yesterday.

I was expecting rain all day, but it ended up being really nice weather. There were a lot of Browns fans there, and way more Browns fans tailgating in the lots I was by than Panthers fans.

The stadium is as bad/boring as the Browns Stadium. ZZZZzzzzzz.

Game was fun to watch. Panther fans were having doubts about Baker throughout the game. When Browns were up, it felt like KC last year where there was a lead but it wasn't safe.

The joy we felt as that kick went through was crazy. Lots of hugs and high fives. The team won like the team usually lost in the past. Feels good to come home with a W.

I've been there; it's probably the worst professional sports venue I've ever been to. It sucks...Charlotte deserves better.

I think it’s my limited stadium experience- outside of anything very recent, are there anything different?

I’ve been to Ford, CBS, Raymond James and State Farm Stadium- they’re all basically the same in terms of just generally being boring places.

SoFi and Allegiant might be the two best sporting locations in the country. Absolute blasts. Go see a game, even if it isn't the Browns, if you get a chance.

Arizona's stadium is nice. Has more of a modern feel to it--sort of like RoMoFiHo.

I meant, and I should clarify, stadiums not built recently.

I find SFS to be very, very boring. For reference, these are my season tickets.

The views are tremendous almost everywhere, but it’s a complete snore around the stadium and in the upper deck.

Cardinals fans think they are football fans, its funny. But the people that are true football fans still root for the teams they grew up rooting for like a friend of mine from Buffalo. His brother in law is Eric Weddle and he went to a SD and Buffalo game years ago when Weddle was still in SD. He refused the free tickets so he could where his Bills Jersey, and after SD won and Weddle had an incredible game, he refused to go down on the field to say hi to Eric because he was so pissed. His Fiancée (Weddle's sister) and Eric himself were laughing their ass's off at how pissed my friend was.

But that is a true fan, an asshole, but true fan, lol

I really enjoyed how open it was.

That's also coming from a Clevelander who visited in early December, so winning me over with sunshine is like winning a toddler over with candy.

It definitely doesn't have any pomp and flash like the new ones. They're entertainment destinations.

Also went to the game. Did a 5 day trip to Charlotte, Asheville, and Greenville SC. What a great time.. especially avoiding the shitty weather you mentioned. It was supposed to rain basically Thursday-Sunday at all those places and it ended up being beautiful weather all weekend other than Saturday evening.

Browns fans definitely showed out both in the tailgate lots and at the game itself. I’d say probably 65/35 between Panthers and Browns fans. Which is pretty badass. This brewery was hosting a Carolina browns backers party on Saturday night and it was a shitshow… they totally underestimated the turnout lol.

Agreed on the stadium. Nothing special at all. But a good atmosphere... and the Browns are 1-0 in games I’ve attended there so it has a special place in my heart for that. Carolina fans were really gracious hosts. The only assholes I ran into weren’t even Panther fans… they were Baker bros who have jumped on the Panthers bandwagon. Amazing how such a mediocre QB has such a large and loyal following.
