2023-24 Season | Game #6 | Cavs @ Pacers | Nov. 3, 2023 | 7:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It looked like the Pacers came out with a playoff mentality after getting rolled by 51 on Wednesday and the Cavs were just going through the motions, except for Mitchell, who had 20 in the first half. Mitchell had an incredible game with 38 points and 9 assists, but he missed a crucial jumper late in the 4th.

This game was lost on 3's - the Pacers were 15-for-31 while the Cavs were an embarassing 8-for-28. That's a 21-point difference in a 5-point loss. Haliburton made his 3-pointer with 17 seconds to go (his foot was on the line so he only got two) and then LeVert missed an open one. Story of the game.

The two technicals also hurt. If not for them the Cavs would have been down one point instead of three on their final possession and that would have changed everything since they were also in the bonus.

Great to see Garland and Allen back but neither is 100%. Mobley had a very nice game with 14/10/5, 3 steals, 4 blocks, and a number of contested shots that missed. He was a +11 meaning the Cavs were -16 in the 12 minutes he was down.

Garland turned it over four times, missed both his 3's, and was abused on defense. Whoever he was guarding just took it into the paint and shot a 10-footer over him. Nothing he could do about it.

Dean Wade was a -9 in three minutes and never got back in the game. I think his time is running out. Speaking of which, Niang is now shooting 24.3% overall and 20.8% on 3's. It's not like he's playing great defense or doing anything really.

Okoro probably had the worst game. The Cavs were -19 in his 22 minutes. He committed 4 fouls and scored 5 points. Strus was 1-for-6 on 3's and is now shooting 31% for the year from deep.

I think eventually our best lineup will be Garland, Mitchell, LeVert, Mobley, and Allen.

Hey, Tristan Thompson shot left-handed free throws for about five years. Give Allen a break.
another example for people to tee off about Allen is just a distraction. the bolded is the real problem.
our team is shooting like complete ass. meanwhile opponents are looking like gods from 3 (except the Knicks).

Every time DG came up short from a good look, every time Strus came up short, and let's not even start with Niang. The expectations with this offense vs what we actually get has been a massive tank.

and I won't say it enough. Fuck Myles Turner. The grand example of a dude with a fake bag. If it were real, he would have been in Phoenix or LA when the opportunity presented itself.

I think this game is easily chalked up to the rustiness of garland and Allen. Both were a step slow and got really gassed in the last couple of minutes. A great learning opportunity for mobley when he gave it up in transition instead of keeping the pressure on the defense. We actually ran a decent out of bounds play but if we had swapped strus and LeVert I think it might have been a better look. Caris is not a movement shooter.

The Pacers hit their shots, but I felt like the way the game was officiated in the first half made them very difficult to defend. Rather than yell at the officials, I'd like to see JBB burn a challenge early when offensive players initiate contact with Allen or Mobley and are rewarded with a trip to the line. It almost doesn't matter if you win the challenge.

I thought the Pacers were getting all the calls and early in the 3rd they had shot 14 free throws to the Cavs seven. But by the end of the game it evened out.

Turner came in shooting 22% on 3's and hit 4 of 5. That was the difference, but sometimes a guy gets hot. We let him shoot his first one uncontested and he made it. That gave him confidence and he hit three more in a row. He's a career 35% from deep, so you have to defend him and the Cavs just didn't even get a hand up on any of his makes. No excuse. They left him alone and he made them pay.

The Cavs scored 9 points in the last six minutes. Sound familiar?

And what was Mobley doing tryig to dunk on Turner with 11 seconds left and the Cavs down by 3?

The game was probably lost in the first half when the Cavs got down by 17, although they had the lead at 95-91 and couldn't hold it.

I think we played a tale of two halves tonight. Tonight in the first half, we had guys who were just trying to figure out where they fit with this team having not played this season. That changes the dynamics with everyone on the floor...In the first half, I thought we were just trying to figure it out...In the second half, thought we did a much better job and gave ourselves a chance. But down 18, now you have to be perfect. - Bickerstaff

That JBB momentum killing timeout was possibly one of THE stupidest in-game decisions a coach has ever made.

Seems like there is a lot of optimism after the Cavs won the second half by 12 points last night.

In 13 minutes together, the starters boasted an offensive rating of 115.4 and a defensive rating of 100.0. They outscored the Pacers by four points. Exactly what the front office imagined. - Fedor

Ball movement was a primary talking point at halftime. Players spoke about the need to shift the Indiana defense and not settle for easy, early-clock jacks. Better offense would help the defense, allowing it to get set before speedy Indiana attacked.

It worked.

In the second half, after players had a chance to get back in the flow and build chemistry, the Cavs erupted for 63 points on 22 of 39 from the field and 4 of 12 from beyond the arc. Twelve of those 22 shots were assisted. They only had five turnovers. - Fedor

Excited to see what the future holds. The second half, the feeling you felt, with the ball movement and having each other’s back on defense, it was a good feeling. It felt like we were really going to do some damage this year....We’re going to be really good. - Niang

Fedor asked him about it postgame, and Allen kinda avoided the question. It does feel like a weird bet or something. Which...if so, pretty unprofessional.

Check it out here, 2:42 into the video:

Uh... not only is it unprofessional and unacceptable but it might even result in an investigation from a gambling/point shaving angle.

That's just completed uncalled for.

One extra point makes a pretty massive difference in that game too.

The Cavs were hunting for 3s on two straight out of bounds plays they otherwise wouldn't have needed at the end of that game.

It's a really dumb look for a guy who was last seen yelling out like a goofy idiot while the Knicks were kicking his ass.

Yeah whatever Minivan, start making your 3's and then you can speak up . . .

JA doesnt know if he shot a FT left handed. Is he aware of a new fangled technology called recorded video? I definitely notice when I use the wrong hand but Im fairly certain there is no video evidence. I have tape over my camera.

I remember seeing him take a free throw and it looked wildly off. Wtf was he doing?

The silly thing is, Allen could have avoided any potential controversy by making up an excuse when asked about it. “My right arm was sore/I hit my funny bone”...whatever. Instead he was suspicious as fuck and now he’s got people wondering if he’s point shaving or had other nefarious intentions.

I don't think he's doing that. I can see why someone might ask. I mean there's all kinds of super weird prop bets out there. Who the fuck knows if there was "Jarrett Allen will miss his first FT" prop bet on some site?

But I DO think it was some dumbass bet. Just...I don't think Jarrett Allen is ever gonna care as much about the Cavs winning as you or I do. I think he's a tall guy who was born with athletic ability and he plays basketball because it makes sense. Not because he loves it.

If I were not a Cavs fan and was looking for a team to adopt, the Pacers would be a finalist. They lead the league in shot attempts per game (pace) and assists. They run and they pass. They have eight players averaging in double figures. They play the game the right way and they have guys like Hield and Nesmith who can come off the bench and knock down 3's. Their backup center, Jalen Smith, had 13 points in 17 minutes.

Smith and Turner combined to go 15-for-22 for 40 points and 14 rebounds in 48 minutes. They destroyed Allen, who gets a pass because he was playing his first game since last season and he was only on the floor 21 minutes.

When Allen sits Mobley moves to center and that leaves either Niang or Wade at PF. We're screwed. They're both awful, although Wade usually plays excellent defense.

And shooting twice as good as Niang or Strus. But that makes no difference. Salary determines playing time.
