shouldn’t players who have already signed extensions be excluded from this? Clase is set for life even if his arm falls off and Julio Rodriguez will be buying an MLS team in the near future.

It was probably done ... 1) for those who signed before rule went into effect, they are not losing out 2) helps small market teams as the bonuses are shared equally between all teams and if most young players benefiting are from the smaller market teams, there is a small transfer here and 3) still gives younger player a bit more money early on even if they signed a small contract -- to guaruntee their family wealth --for superior performance (where people thought the most egregious acts of owners taking advantage of their monopoly was happening) 4) lastly, makes negotiating those first 3 years easy -- just give the minimum as player adjusts to bigs -- plus this bonus for those that hit the ground running like Kwan or Clase this year (being the closer of the year).

It also depends on if the player was getting minimum in 22 or not... If they got minimum in 22, they are going to get the bonus, plus I do think it's based on MLB experience as well...

I do not understand all this Straw debate because BABIP kind of stuff generally averages out over time and I don't see any huge differences between 2021 and 2022 which seems like going forward we can expect somewhere between the two, especially because he ended up on a good run. You don't bench guys who are on a hot streak. If he's the 80 or higher wRC+ guy who is elite with the glove, you take it.

How is that any different than a well above average offensive player that is below average defensively? I'll say this then I'll be done with the conversation. My angst toward Straw isn't totally engrossed in his offensive ineffectiveness. It is extrapolated due to the type of offense they are looking to win with. Having a hitter like Straw isn't a big burden in a lineup full of thumpers. Having a hitter like the 2022 Straw in a next man up/keep the ball rolling type of offense where everyone needs to contribute average or slightly better is the issue in my eyes. It's like farting in the shower. Same problem made worse by the conditions. We had as many as 4 at times like that last season with very little power output. If Straw could hit .260, get on base at a .330 clip and pound out 10-12 HR with his defense then I'd be a huge fan. I don't think he'll ever reach that kind of production so I'm not a fan of him being a starter. I see him as a 4th OF/pinch runner/late inning defensive replacement. If he makes me look foolish for not being a fan do you think I'll be disappointed?

I wish we could all play an OOTP type of game together haha

I'm pure contact with power mixed in here and there, you are power first lol

It's not? We have stats that help to contextualize the sum contribution and I don't really care how they contribute. You and CATS44 seem to be the only ones who are super focused on the process.

Career stats: Straw produces less outs than Rosario, Naylor and long term probably O. Gonzalez (close now)

I don't hate that idea....

RCF OOTP league?

I would love it, but I am not sure how to coordinate it lol

Edit: I wonder if there is a setup where we can each control a team, and make the deals for each... We would have to figure the win-loss somehow or have someone do the moves in an OOTP game or something and see what the Sim says... lol

Yeah well I'm looking to replace Rosario too. lol

No I'm not "power first". You continually say that, but it's not accurate. I just can't stand the absence of power. That doesn't mean I want guys that hit 30+ HR who can't get on base or put the bat on the ball at a good clip. Give me good hitters that range from 15-25 HR with a pile of doubles up and down the lineup and I'll be happy as hell. There are the exceptions like Kwan. I doubt he ever reaches 15 HR and that's fine as long as he continues to hit like he did in 22. I think Brennan is going to carry a little less of an average than Kwan with a bit more power. A full season from him would probably meet my minimum requirement of 15. I could easily see a .280/340 season from Will with 15-20 HR.......easily. OGon is going to give you 25-35 bombs and hit for a decent average without carrying a good OBP. Bell is an awesome signing IMO and he should fit right in with JRam. Josh Naylor should never hit any less than 25 from here on out. Especially if he's protected from tough LHP. Andres should provide us with consistent power similar to the 22 season even if his average dips. Get me Jansen to pair with Bo and we're f'ing golden behind the dish. That's a shitton of power from a spot that we got less production from in 22 than Straw provided. The last spot I'd like to see addressed(offensively speaking) is SS or 2B. Whichever one Andres isn't playing. Who's got a good defensive MIFer that hits better than Rosario and is available? How about they call LA and ask about Rengifo? Get him, put him at 2B and I'm f'n stoked.

Edited to say that there's nothing left to do after those moves. You can use every prospect not named Espino, Williams or Bibee to add a SP.

C- Jansen, B. Naylor
1B- J. Naylor, Bell
2B- Rengifo, Arias
3B- JRam, Arias
SS- Gimenez, Arias
LF- Kwan, Straw
CF- Brennan, Straw
RF- OGon, Straw
DH- Bell, Naylor, OGon

That my friend, is a lineup to be feared IMO.

Wanting to replace Amed with Rengifo is the height of unjustified and inane hatred of Rosario.

Does Rengifo hit for better average? No
Higher OBP? No
Higher SLG? No
Higher wRC+? Not even close.
More productive vs LHers? Not even close.
More productive vs RHers? No
Better base runner? Nope.
Better base stealer? Haaaaa
Better defensively? No

Rengifo is far more versatile defensively, if we are looking for a util.
