2023 Guardians Spring Training Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You might as well be talking to that mouse you're moving around and clicking. That's basically the dumbest fucking comparison that I have seen in quite some time.

Damn. That's a bit...harsh.

Well they aren't even in the same realm as far as player type and upsides. It was a shitty comparison by any measure so yeah, I was a bit harsh. It gets a bit frustrating when somebody makes a post as if we're that stupid.

Same here. It's pretty irrelevant. Just ready to get to: nice weather and real, old fashioned clock controlled baseball games.
I see what you did there! :chuckle:

I filtered stats out by what I'd call "core pitchers".

This means Bieber, Civale, Plesac, TMac, Quantrill and Karinchak, Morgan, Sandlin, Clase, Stephan, Hentges.

So far their line looks like:
49.1 IP, 52 H, 41 R, 40 ER, 9 HR, 2 HB, 26 BB, 50 SO for an ERA of 7.30 and WHIP of 1.58.

This is clearly in the "not good" category and actually the other pitchers have a lower ERA. I don't think it's worth getting hysterical about but it's also something to keep an eye on because these are actually the guys who are going to be pitching and they're getting knocked around so far.

I'm going to bookmark this post and save off my Excel file just so that I can refer to it once ST is done and see (hopefully) how much this squad has improved.

BTW, Bieber only pitched 4.2 innings last spring which is a joke of a sample.

Like I said before, I don't think you can look at any one pitcher and say "yeah I'm scared" (TMac would be closest), but looking at the whole crew is not exactly inspiring because they average out to that 7.30 ERA.
This^

My point was that it is sometimes less what someone says than how they say it.

There's a fair bit of nastiness in some of the posts floating around -- obviously not just yours -- and I'm just trying to remind everyone early on that the only real rule here is to treat others with some degree of decency. It's kind of sad when I get PM'd by someone comparatively new who says they'd like to post but people just seem too nasty so they're hesitant. None of us are kind/friendly/reasonable all the time, including me. It just helps sometimes to have someone stick in a reminder on occasion to keep us from getting too far off track.

That's all I was really going for.

Point taken good sir.

I am guessing today's game is rained out, it has been raining here all day

Cam Gallagher is well received by the "brass".. From Paul Hoynes

Among the five candidates, the Guardians are probably the most familiar with Gallagher, who spent four-plus years catching for Kansas City, in how he’d handle the backup role

“We have seen him so much,” said Francona. “Like Chris (Antonetti) said, we tried to trade for him once. We almost claimed him once. He’s almost been in Cleveland a few times.

“I think we feel he comes in with the right ingredients. A guy who can catch first, run the game, things like that. He may have had the best job in baseball as Salvie’s backup (Kansas City’s Salvador Perez)."

Back to me - It seems likes it's Cam's job to lose and even if he loses it.... He probably won't....

I will disappointed if Cam gets the nod over Meibrys myself...
Great!(insert as much sarcasm as possible)

The comparison wasn't between Outland and Ernie, for those lacking in comprehension. It was an example of spring training stats, esp those with outlandish OPS, being absolutely meaningless.

And suggesting that spring training stats have anything to do with performance in October is equally absurd.

News flash:

Kansas City, in spite of its spring training record, will be eliminated long before the season nears its end.
