2023 Guardians Spring Training Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
How is it even something to keep an eye on though? What reason could we possibly have to suspect that all of our pitchers are suddenly incompetent this year and will all fall off a cliff? How is that statistically possible? The only reasonable conclusion to reach from your data is that it doesn't matter.

OR we are going to see something that is unprecedented in the history of major league baseball. Which seems more likely?
You're putting words in my mouth, that's not what I said at all. If the overall stats are bad though it means it's more statistically likely that there is some individual problem(s) within the overall grouping, not the EVERYONE IS BAD straw man. So don't lecture me on "reasonable conclusions" based on "statistics" simply by shooting down something that was never said.

I'm not saying this is something to be weighted heavily at all but can we try seeing it through something that isn't complete black-and-white thinking?

Put more simply, if 5 people are struggling in limited samples, what is the chance that at least one of them has a problem? 4 of them may be fine, but one of them may struggle, who knows...

I’d be curious in an even more broad view….how is the pitch clock impacting their preparation? Shift changes, etc.

I used your exact words of it being something to keep an eye on and nothing else. I explained why it isn’t something to keep an eye on. The mere fact that it’s everyone proves that this isn’t statistically relevant

Errors, hitters striking out and pitcher command are the things I tend to look at in ST.

But all and all ST stats are fairly meaningless.

There was near hysteria among several posters last year when the velocities of all but one of our starters were down clear into May last season.

By the end of the season our starters...sans injuries...will be fairly close to their career numbers. Civales may actually improve a bit if he stays healthy.

He isnt back, he is just teasing us. @BimboColesHair
@BimboColesHair is doing his Claire Standish/Allison Reynolds thing...

.
.
.

Allison Reynolds: It’s kind of a double edged sword isn’t it?
Claire Standish: A what?
Allison Reynolds: Well, if you say you haven’t, you’re a prude. If you say you have you’re a slut. It’s a trap. You want to but you can’t, and when you do you wish you didn’t, right?
Claire Standish: Wrong.
Allison Reynolds: Or are you a tease?
Andrew Clark: She’s a tease.

No you didn't. You took my words and created something in your head, different of what was intended or communicated. Aggregate stats don't indicate a problem with EVERYTHING and that was never implied, your refusal to get that is where the breakdown occurs. It doesn't mean they are all bad together or will all struggle and that was never implied, and I'd consider that implication as silly as you do... again if you actually comprehended what I was trying to get across you'd not have responded the way you did.

Bimbo's point is definitely fair, but it's fun to speculate and without being behind the scenes we can't decide who might be more of a legitimate struggler and who is simply building up or trying something new.

What I do know though is the closer we get to the regular season, the less tinkering there will be and more playing at close to 100% performance level we will see as the later games are used as test runs. So again, something to keep an eye on to see if (hopefully) the walks go down, the strikeouts go up, the ERA goes down etc.

We also have to take into factor we don't see all the games/ABs either since they have side games/simulated games to get people some reps and whatnot. We also may see pitchers focusing on a certain pitch that day that they normally wouldn't and other factors like that.

You've had a LOT worse things than words put into your mouth..

..like GBC....

This was uncalled for.... only @Lee can posts things like this in the spring training thread!
