2023 Guardians Spring Training Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This is not an argument to keep Amed. But I do think it’s a shame that his contributions to the team(a good number being intangibles) are denigrated in the making of a case to not keep him.
IMO, one can make a case that we have better upcoming talent without denigrating Amed
More than anything, he is a victim of a farm system loaded with middle IF prospects that are ready to get a chance. Should you commit $12 million or more a year to a good player at the position when you could likely get a decent substitute or maybe an upgrade for a fraction of the cost?

Not at all….at the same time he adds value to this team, and I suspect it’s more than the statistical replacement value. That’s my only point.

I must have missed something. Who has denigrated Amed?

Contract extensions are likely TMac and Gimenez, with an off chance of Kwan or Bieber...

The question is in the word 'likely', quoted above.

Bibee hasn't gotten enough minor league time to be above Battenfield and Allen.

Now come mid season the rankings could change, but he is behind both of those guys in the depth chart at this current moment.

I am not talking about talent, I am talking about depth chart to the big league club. Allen and Battenfield will see time before Bibee if it comes down to injuries.

Come 24 though, Bibee has a very good chance of jumping them, but it's unlikely in 23...
About a week ago, I broke down and bought a PD and Terry Pluto wrote a long article on this coming baseball season. He brought up his interview with Bob Cerfolio, Director of player personnel that he had prior to the start of the 22 season. Pluto asked him who could we count on to help this team the most in the very near future. Kwan, OGon, Bo Naylor, Valera, Benson, Espino, Williams, N Jones??? Any of those? Nope. He named just 2 players that were can't miss. And this was prior to the 22 season. Will Brennan and Tanner Bibee.

That's why a few days ago I said Brennan will play/start in at least half their games. Of the 4 outfielders on the team, he very well could be the best all around player. As for Bibee, My prediction is that he'll be the one who gets called up whenever Plesac breaks his big toe after kicking the rubber in disgust, probably in June or July.

Not going to be doing contract extensions with TMac for a while.. maybe next offseason
I disagree. The injury could make TMac more agreeable to a team friendly deal put forward pre-injury.

Either way, I look forward to learning who got signed/ extended..

I think Civale is a candidate although I'm not sure he qualifies as "young" anymore.
