2023 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He is my sleeper as well. Just noticed that @I'mWithDan dropped his sleepers in March and his model likes him. He's got some Michigan State Era Draymond going on... but with a better three ball.

Of course my sleeper last year was David Roddy and he went about 25 picks higher than he was getting mocked.
Keys, I remember we really like similar players throughout the last years. Not just Roddy, we liked Tillman, Bane, Murphy, Bey, and even Paul Reed who can be a 8-10 year NBA role.

I was just glad Roddy wasn’t going to be picked up by the Warriors.

Don't make go through my history of talking up sleepers. If you guys will allow...

Brian Cardinal - Yes, that's how far back my sleeper lists go. Technically I could go further.

Marc Gasol - Wine and Gold didn't agree. This is also why I was stoked for Isaiah Mobley.

Patty Mills - Started my love affair with Saint Mary's.

Something Something Dellavedova - On that when he was still a junior.

Mike Muscala - I brought him up because I love bigs who can imitate KLove as projects.

Jeremy Lin - I started a damn thread about the Harvard Asian kid who dominated youth Cali hoops.

Did I have some missed sleepers? Yes but I also forgot a few of my lead pipe locks over the years. Sure, but I stand by my track record.

Man, I know we aren’t going to have any real shot to get either of these guys, but Taylor Hendricks and Kris Murray would just fit so well on this team.

Hendricks kind of reminds me of Vanderbilt with a 3pt shot and post potential. Murray reminds me a bit of DFS as a 3/4 who’s a good shooter, defender, and rebounder. He looks like he has a nice post-up and creation game in him as well. I think once he gets a bit stronger he’s going to be a high level rebounder and able to work smaller defenders on the block.

Hendricks is only going to be available if you trade someone like Allen. Murray is probably a top 20 guy, maybe top 25. Maybe would cost Okoro plus something else to the right team.

Combing through prospects at 49 is getting old lol.

I'd move Allen to DAL for #10 if Hendricks is still on the board in a heartbeat.

I don't think he's worth the 10th pick, but DAL has made it well known they want to move it and he fills a huge hole at an affordable salary so he or some package around him could be worth it to them.

Cavs fans in May: Why didn't the front office get aggressive at the deadline? We need to go all in before Donovan Mitchell's contract is up.

Cavs fans in June: Let's move Allen for a late lottery pick.

Doesn't make much sense, huh?

Grant Nelson measured and tested well. He's a complete lotto ticket but I'd throw his name in too.

The guys I would be excited about snagging, relative to where we pick:

Kobe Brown
Grant Nelson
Jaylen Clark
Jalen Bridges
Oscar Tshiebwe
DaRon Holmes II
Reece Beekman
Andre Jackson

Jackson is probably the most intriguing guy out of that group, as he has the markers of an elite defender (stocks, size, athleticism).

I'll update my board this week with all the athletic testing inputs but Jackson really stands out when you consider frame, athleticism and production on the wing. He's a very streaky shooter, so a bit of a gamble.......but if he could shoot, right now, the Cavs would have zero shot at him.

But history would tell us the best 2nd round players are really likely to come from that group. I'll double back and make sure I didn't miss anyone, when I update athletic testing......but those are the high success guys that generally fall in our pick range (from what I see).

Nelson, Beekman, Bridges and Holmes all went back to college for another year..

Perhaps I’m too focused on shooting but I just can’t bring myself to grasps with anyone that isn’t already a productive shooter with how much we know this team needs shooting..

Clark is interesting especially if Cavs end up trading Okoro as I could see him playing a similar role..

Julian Strawther continues to be the guy I have my hopes up for — seems like he’s going to be a Courtney Lee type player in the league and be a solid role player for years.. Keyontae Johnson is another guy I’m intrigued by due to his profile being what the Cavs need..

I’d be okay with Kobe Brown.. I know you were high on Grant Williams, how does he compare?

I don’t know why but Seth Lundy seems to me like a guy Koby will be interested in..

Have anything on Jordan Miller from Miami?

Half the good guys went back?! Eeek. :chuckle:

Guess that will be an additional thing I’ll add to the list. Delete returnees.

I don’t think I had Lundy or Miller pulled in. I can also add anyone else someone is curious about.

Strawther just has too good of a profile to be there to me. Based on past years, I suspect he will go significantly higher than he is being mocked. But maybe we’ll get lucky, as I agree he’s a really nice fit skill wise.

Just catching up on some of the draft thoughts in big boards...... KOC for example.

The top of this draft is so freakin bad from a production profile standpoint.

Screenshot-2023-06-09-at-2-15-40-PM.png

He only mocks 6-7 guys in the top 20 who are high success profile types.

There is one huge sweet spot emerging and I see why Denver just maneuvered.

in that 25-50 range.......there are 13 players that hit that high success rate mark.

If I were the Cavs and this (KOC's opinion on a big board) is remotely close to what happens, there will be a lot of potential value in the middle 3rd of this draft.

Let's see your full PDIFF!

I’ll post it next week. With the Cavs drafting so late, I definitely didn’t have this as a priority. I need to clean out returnees and also add in a few guys who look to be combine risers. I’ll post a list of the top 80 ish guys from mocks before the finals ends.

I know there has been a bunch of hand wringing over trading a 1st for LeVert but in terms who they’re missing out on in the late 1st, I’d say this is as good of a year to have traded a 1st for a veteran player…

Where is all this trading LeVert for a 1st content? And where is it credible ?

And why?

Kvetching over the LeVert trade was rampant last summer through around April. No reason for me to produce receipts, but plenty of people in S34 were pissed he wasn't healthy to close out the 2022 season.

Once it became clear that LeVert's three ball wasn't a fluke and he would be relatively healthy, the complaints faded away. He then went and shocked all of us by having a relatively good series against the Knicks when other forum darlings pooped their pants.

But this draft being only three deep and then a crapshoot feels like the whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles... LeVert signing a good contract that doesn't limit future moves will be the cherry on top.
