2023 Offseason Potential Targets (FA and Trades)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Naz Reid blurb tracks, the Mason Plumlee mention not so much. Reid has some perimeter skills, shoots around 35% from three and has solid defensive advanced metrics.

Any way we could work a trade with the Hawks for AJ Griffen? Good shooter. Maybe for Cedi?

Also a guy that can play with Allen or Mobley. Plumlee can't really do that.

Koby could've drafted AJ Griffin last year and he chose Ochai instead. If he didn't want to draft him then, I can't imagine he'd trade assets for him now.

You put Naz Reid on the Miami Heat right now and they’re winning it all. All those guys looking to dribble penetrate and make the extra pass and he fits right in.

I’d take Reid’s skillset over JA right now. Just fits better.

Fedor:

- thinks Grant Williams, Max Strus, Harrison Barnes, Dillon Brooks [doesn't shoot well enough, so probably not him], Gary Trent Jr., Donte Divincenzo, and Joe Ingles are the 'logical' targets. Thinks we will get at least one of them.

- Calls better wings like a Cam Johnson a pipe dream.

- Says unless a genuine solution materializes for an ideal SF, the Cavs aren't moving JA. They may want to see how Mobley develops first.

Makes sense for the targets......I still stand by my thoughts of trading Garland and filler for Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, and Royce if it were on the table.
PG Mitchell
SG Bridges
SF Royce
PF Cam
C Mobley

JA off the bench.

Whoa...I like Garland, but this is crazy to think he has that kind of value.

How about we just trade Allen for Giannis instead?

I've said this a few times but I'm trying not to spam. Someday Evan is going to be able to play full time center. The Cavs know unequivocally that day isn't today. Evan is 215 pounds an a seven footer. He has added reasonable strength in one off-season but like his perimeter offense, it won't change overnight. You put Evan on centers for 35+ minutes every night, you are shortening his career and asking for injuries

The mention of Mason Plumlee as a target feels like the only backup plan to trading Allen elsewhere, because for the next decade or so Evan is going to be a power forward.

The fans of a stretch big aren't even incorrect - we need one. However, it's going to be a third big not a Jarrett replacement.

I've said the same here, and elsewhere, with more colorful language.

Only Barnes and Brooks are proper 3s...

As you alluded to, I think the better question to look at this year is whether or not Allen is the guy to play that center role. The Warriors early in their run are kind of the perfect pattern for the Cavs to follow. Bogut started with Green and played 24 minutes and they had Speights and Lee playing different frontcourt roles along with Iggy.

Seems like we need to answer if the best course moving forward is paying Allen $20M to play 30+ minutes or if we should try to move him for multiple rotational pieces that can play specific roles. I just don't think having a guy play 30 mpg at C is going to work for this with how we should be utilizing Mobley.
