2023 Offseason Potential Targets (FA and Trades)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This team needs shooting more than anything else. So, someone more knowledgeable than me please correct me if any of the following are impossible:

- Renounce/waive everyone except LeVert's Bird Rights [i'm not sure how this part works].
- Out-right sign Josh Richardson/Dario Saric enough to stay under the cap
- Re-sign LeVert with Bird Rights to go over the cap [but not to the Apron]
- Use the full mid-level exception to sign the other of Richardson/Saric
- Use the bi-annual to get another vet shooter like Seth Curry or a big bodied garbage man big that can eat minutes? Or bring over Diop? Or use Okoro to get one like a Mo Bamba?

That would give us:

DG, Rubio, Curry?
Mitchell, Richardson
Wade, LeVert, Okoro?
Mobley, Saric
JA, garbage man big/bring over Diop?/swap Okoro for a Mo Bamba big?

I'm not as concerned about the SF position as I am shooting. So i'm stacking the bench with shooters. DG, Curry, Richardson, Wade, LeVert, and Saric gives us decent shooting/spacing. Dangle Okoro, JA, and picks at the trade deadline for a wing if the opportunity presents itself.

Widespread

What teams have an ‘elite’ small forward and it’d also make sense for them to acquire Simons? Best I could come up with is:

Boston - if they don’t want to pay Brown

Toronto - Could be in a mini rebuild if Trent/FVV leave. OG or Siakam would be the guy

I guess maybe Miles Bridges. Nets are kind of in a weird spot, but I could see them moving Bridges for future pieces.

Defining guys like OG and Bridges as ‘elite’ seems like a stretch anyway. Good players, but not really elite. I guess maybe DeRozan as well, but I’m not trading a top 5 pick for him at this point.

Nets aren't really in position to move Mikal Bridges for future pieces. The Nets don't have control of their picks until 2028. Making moves to make themselves worse doesn't make sense for the Nets.

So what are we going to do about the frontcourt...I think we need to look at guys who were underutilized on other teams due to depth or age or whatever, and hope we can turn them into something more. We can't pay for guys who are already established.

These are all UFAs with a few exceptions...

Trey Lyles - fan favorite and is open to returning to Kings. Seems like he would fit our culture of nice men.

Naz Reid - I think he's going to be priced out of our range.

Mo Bamba - questions about his motor. The opposite of a fan favorite in both ORL and LAL. But he's a fit, on paper.

Eubanks - is there untapped shooting potential? If so why wasn't it realized in POR.

Thomas Bryant - like Bamba, questions about his motor. Poor defensive player. Can't shoot.

Bobby Portis - seems ideal but not sure how we get him. Fan favorite in MIL. Tough. (Not UFA)

Chimezie Metu - one of those guys whose fans realize has limitations but is a good contributor and want to see him get minutes. Can maybe shoot. Not big enough for the 5.

Mo Wagner - eh

Plumlee - could do worse for a guy to soak up minutes as 4th or 5th big. RoLo but more playable?

Christian Wood - not a culture piece

Poetl - expensive

Cody Zeller - see Plumlee. Is that racist?

Not fair !

I know the pick thing is an issue, but it’s going to be an issue no matter what. If you added Simons and Miller to the Nets and removed Bridges, are they really that much worse as constructed? I don’t know. Their ceiling seems about the same for this year.

They made the Durant trade full well knowing they don’t control their picks. I don’t think they can worry about it at this point. If you rate Scoot or Miller high enough you figure it out later.

I dont want plumlee. Dude is starting center on my least favorite players list. He is super selfish

With the way Bridges played for the Nets after he was traded to them. I would find it hard to believe they would trade him for Simons and the 4th pick. I think the Nets will try to build around Bridges and see if what he did was real or not. He averaged 26 PPG for them and was efficient in doing so. He's looks like he's their next center piece.

Bridges is staying put, they’ll be looking at adding a young star to pair with him.

I didn't get far down your scenario, but Levert would have a cap hold that means they dont have usable cap space. I *believe* its 125% of his 2023 salary. That means theyd have to sign him before they could figure any actual cap space availability.
