2023 Offseason Potential Targets (FA and Trades)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's funny because Barnes would basically be playing the same role here he did with Golden State at SF.

He's 6'8 @ 225 and averaged 15 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1.5 apg on 47/37/84 shooting splits this past regular season.
He shot 39%, 39%, 38%, and 40% from 3 in the past four seasons with Sacramento. That's about what Don shoots from 3.

Anything greater than 35% is considered above average to great. Anything 40% or greater is considered elite.

That's exactly the type of wing we need in theory. He's 30 years old though. Has his defense regressed that much to the point he can't defend SFs? I think stability helps older players be successful. KCP is 30 years old and he fits into Denver at SG like a glove because he has a defined role.

Yes his defense has gotten that bad. He can't defend at all anymore.

If we want to talk about the way guys played nearly 10 years ago, sure. It’s like saying TT could come in and fill our energy big role off the bench and be an elite rebounder.

Did you ever watch the Kings play? He was their starting PF. Murray, Huerter, and Davis basically played all the SF minutes. He’d be great as a third big, but I certainly wouldn’t want him as our answer at SF.

I wouldn't want him as a third big either. Because he can't rebound. We have enough rebounding issues as it is. Barnes is a good floor spacer but provides nothing else at this stage of his career. I don't see how he's a fit.

Cleveland Cavaliers dream off-season

PG: Darius Garland / Ricky Rubio / Raul Neto
SG: Donovan Mitchell / Jordan Clarkson / 49th pick
SF: Royce O'Neale / Caris LeVert / Lamar Stevens
PF: Evan Mobley / Dean Wade / Luke Travers / Isaiah Mobley
C: Jarrett Allen / Khalifa Diop

Clarkson doesn't help the team at all. And would be a terrible fit off the bench with LeVert neither are knock down shooters and both get tunnel vision. Why would Nets trade ONeale to us for 2 pick swaps when we are better then them?

I don't know if they would trade O'Neale for that, but I do think there's a possibility that they simply let him walk. Their payroll is astronomical & have a bunch of other wings ahead of him in the depth chart.

I think we could use a scoring weapon like Clarkson off the bench. Having depth would help this team tremendously.

I just don't see how Clarkson helps. We need someone who can score sure. We need people who can shoot more. Having another player in the rotation who isn't going to help spread the floor should be a non starter. We have zero threats from 3 outside of Garland and Mitchell.

The Naz Reid blurb tracks, the Mason Plumlee mention not so much. Reid has some perimeter skills, shoots around 35% from three and has solid defensive advanced metrics.
I wanted Naz Reid for awhile but after last season someone is going to overpay like Jerami Grant after Denver offseason. In the end, Naz is a better fit than Allen overall as he provides shooting and defense. He will fit really well with Mobley.

Naz will get more than the MLE unfortunately now. I would rather pay the salary that Allen has for Naz.

Naz has some solid qualities for a third big man, but the talk that he's more valuable than Allen is serious grass being greener syndrome. We have people claiming Allen isn't strong enough to rebound, yet he's been among the league leaders the past four seasons.

I welcome people to look at the advanced metrics here:

Allen improved his win shares from 8.5 to 9.5 last season. So as he surrendered some counting stats as Mobley improved and became a co-paint protector rather than second banana, the production together was stronger than his previous year. Would I like more efficiency shootings? Of course, but sometimes improvement isn't perfectly linear in every category.

Here is Naz Reid's advanced statistics:

At one year younger, there's a lot to like about Reid's improving impact as a scorer. I like his game. That said, Jarrett Allen has better offensive and defensive advanced metrics and dwarfs Reid's 3.0 win shares.

The recency bias of that brutal playoff series is seriously clouding what the stats can tell you about Allen's season.

You know which third big I'm ridiculously high on this off-season? Blazers energy big Drew Eubanks. A former Spurs system reserve, Eubanks appeared in 78 games, making 28 starts. He averaged 6.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 64.1% from the field. He is a little gun shy from three but when he puts it up, he can make it at a high percentage. As a starter, Eubanks averaged 8.9 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks.

For a guy who only made 1.9 million last season, I've been forced to stop calling him Dweeb Eubanks. That guy has developed and you should be uncomfortable with how high I am on his development.

Trade #1
Cleveland receives: Keldon Johnson, Devin Vassell, '24 frp via Toronto, '25 frp via Atlanta, 32nd pick & '25 srp's via Chicago & Toronto
San Antonio receives: Donovan Mitchell

Why?
Cleveland needs wings. Mitchell is undersized, a taller wing next to Garland would be ideal.
San Antonio gets the best player in the deal.

Trade #2
Cleveland receives: Wendell Carter Jr., Chuma Okeke, '25 frp via Denver & '27 & '28 srp's via Boston
Orlando receives: Jarrett Allen

Why?
Cleveland needs a big that can shoot.
Orlando gets a big that fits better next to Paolo.

PG: Darius Garland / Ricky Rubio / Raul Neto
SG: Devin Vassell / Caris LeVert / Isaac Okoro
SF: Keldon Johnson / Chuma Okeke / Cedi Osman
PF: Evan Mobley / Dean Wade / Isaiah Mobley / Luke Travers
C: Wendell Carter Jr. / Khalifa Diop

I don’t believe Spurs would have much interest in Mitchell. They would absolutely love Garland.
