2023 Season | Series #32 | Phillies @ Guardians | July 21-23, 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think Fry has done exceptionally well in limited ABs.

I think Arias needs more consistent ABs. Some players just can't step in and pinch hit or play spot duties. Some of them need a rhythm and to play every day.

Comparing the two is stupid. Fry is playing his way into a nice utility and backup catcher role with pinch hit upside.

Arias is getting his season wasted by the worst SS in baseball.
I hope you're not looking for an argument from me about those topics because I 100% agree.

I got a kick out of his slight that stated how Fry has found immediate success while Arias has struggled. Didn't bother mentioning that there is almost 5 yrs difference in age. LOL Nevermind that Fry and Arias have nothing to do with each other. Do you think that next season he'll follow Amed closely while he plays for someone else and keep us reminded how they let a great one walk away?

The one that gets me is his post that Arias “failed” on his chance so we should move on when he put up a .775 OPS with plus defense at 2 positions he hadn’t played before this season while championing Amed’s minor achievements and remaining quiet about his high school level of play defensively and Myles Straw level of production vs RHP.

In theory, if Gallagher or Naylor is catching, Fry and Arias are competing over RF if we're giving a break to one of the OFs probably against a lefty, and this has happened a bit. But if you just have Fry catch against the lefties and don't play Gallagher at all then there's not a scenario where they really compete. Maybe just to give Straw an odd day off or something. But Gallagher is still catching so yeah there is a slight competition on those days...

Let's be honest there was quite an attempt to get people all psyched about watching Gabriel "Correa" Arias and Will "Brantley" Brennan. You can slice and dice stats however you want but Arias has a .590 OPS this year and Brennan .658 at a corner OF position sitting a lot against lefties.

Neither of them will play the OF much if Brennan gets hot again. What happened to Arias. Brennan got hot at the same time Arias was playing pretty well in an everyday role and you’re going to lean on the OFer swinging a hot bat over the guy out of position swinging an ok bat.

Arias didn’t even play a bad RF. Better than Fry out there, Fry has almost hurt a few people out there too. But neither should be playing RF in an ideal world.

Definitely agree with that but if Gallagher is going to be at C there is going to be that problem where we are shoving Fry in the OF. And I'm definitely no fan at all of Fry in the OF, he's looked awful out there. For Arias it's more just like wasted talent.

I mean yeah, no one is arguing Arias has been good this season.

The argument is he isn’t being used properly and isn’t being put in the best position to succeed.

Hard to deny that one.

Gallagher is a waste of a roster spot right now.

Carrying 3 guys who can C and should be doing little outside of playing the C position is hurting this team and it’s future more than it should.

Sure we're on the same page here. Gallagher and Rosario are not only contributing about -1 WAR but they're also killing the development of younger players like Freeman, Arias, and even Bo

Amed I don’t mind as much as Gallagher for reasons outside of his play on the field.

Gallagher is costing you chances to evaluate 2 players at 2 different positions with Fry on the roster and him showing he can handle spot duty as a C. If he is costing you that he better be providing something that is irreplaceable, which he obviously isn’t.

Who would you rather have in Gallagher's spot?

By spot, do you mean the backup C spot he currently occupies?

If so, the answer is Fry.
I don’t really mind having him on the roster as an emergency third catcher, but there’s no reason Fry shouldn’t be getting first crack at reps behind the plate when Naylor sits.
