2023 Season | Series #38 | Guardians @ Rays | Aug. 11-13, 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Could pull a lineup out of a hat that would be better than that. In fact, I’m going to completely randomize a lineup with our active guys and I bet it’s on par or better than that shit.

Here it is, in order (I picked the positions):

Brennan - CF
Gimenez - SS
Laureano - RF
Gonzalez - DH
Gallagher - C
Straw - 2B
Tena - 3B
Arias - 1B
Kwan - LF

This is actually about as dogshit of a lineup that is humanly possible. It started out solid and fell off a cliff. Jose, Rocchio, and Bo don’t even get to play and I’ve got to put Straw at 2B (he’s played middle infield sparingly in the past).

Considering who is available to play tonight, what would your lineup be? You think Oscar or Arias would put any runs on the board?

Maybe, maybe not. I’d much rather see what we have with a guy like Arias over a soon to be 36-year old veteran in Calhoun who won’t be here next year.

Given our lack of resources (notably no Naylor), assuming everybody else on the active roster can go, I’d probably run this:
  1. Kwan, LF
  2. Gimenez, 2B
  3. Ramirez, 3B
  4. Arias, 1B
  5. Calhoun, RF
  6. Rocchio, SS
  7. Brennan, CF
  8. Gonzalez, DH
  9. Naylor, C
It’s not great, but that about maximizes what we’ve got right now.

EDIT: Could even swap Jose and Gimenez so you don’t have three lefties back to back.

Even in that lineup, Arias should be nowhere near the 4 hole. Would probably go something like:

Kwan
Gimenez
Brennan
Ramirez
Gonzalez
Calhoun
Rocchio
Naylor
Arias

It's probably a bit early....but I think we've seen enough already. There are some flashes....but his K rate is terrible. We can't afford another defensive Straw in this lineup.

I don't care if Calhoun won't be here next year. I'd still take his bat 8 maybe 9 out of 10 times right now in this lineup.

Arias has less than 250 MLB at bats and is 23 years old. You can't say we've "seen enough" already with a guy that young and a sample size that small. Wildly unfair to the player.

Yeah, he's looked bad, but you know who else looked really bad in a very small MLB sample size? Will Benson and Nolan Jones.

And now either one of those guys would look absolutely fantastic in this lineup.

The 2 guys who I'm more perplexed about missing games in Freemann and Fry.

I just don't want to have that mindset regarding Arias. Too much raw power if he puts it together. I aimed for him having another 160 ABs to close the year out but that's dwindling now.

He needs more time so we can see. This end stretch should be all developmental, and if they knock on the Twins door, even better for the development plan.

Holy smokes, Kwan swung at the first pitch!

Agreed...well.... I've seen enough, this year. But, it's why I prefaced with "it may be a bit early".

Hosey is in a 4-29 stretch. Ouch goes the offense when one man doesn't perform. Thanks team!

Wish Amed wasn't sucking up all the playing time for over half the year.

Would've been nice to go into the offseason with fewer question marks

Boy, this guy was such a great addition.
