2024 Cleveland Browns Off-Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Definitely a sanctioned NFL event that was about as boring of a production as possible.

No suspense, no real surprises outside of Penix-- just a blah event.

A boring production that drew and will continue to draw massive television ratings every year.

I highly enjoyed it. Always do. Will be even better next year when the Browns are involved on day 1.

Crazy thing is even had we kept the picks and not traded for Watson, the Browns might not’ve been able to truly address the QB position until this year anyway. The draft we traded for Watson was the Kenny Pickett year and all the reasonable vet guys had been traded at that point.

Last year the solution would’ve been Rodgers who was likely always destined for NY. Then the other options would’ve been Lance and maybe Levis or Richardson.

Who knows what else we could’ve done with the other picks and cap space, but outside of making Brissett the starter the Browns are likely taking a QB in this years draft and hoping they workout.
We could have been in the Cousins sweepstakes at some point, perhaps.

The thing everyone keeps ignoring is the FAs that came here bc the perception of Watson as a QB who can win a SB.

But yes, in a vacuum if we had to draft a QB, and even if this was our year for that, they likely wouldn’t be good until next year at the earliest.

I am thrilled that so many Browns fans are bored with the draft this year. It's a great sign.

For more than two decades, the season was infuriating and the draft was the payoff for all the suffering. This year we had last minute game winners, the best coaching staff in the business, and Flacco Fever.

I'll take a satisfying regular season and a boring draft next year as well, please.

There are better GMs than others and some do draft better but a large part of GMs still strike out more than they hit on draft picks -- it's just the nature of the beast... It's why teams who understand this and try to accumulate more picks to give themselves more darts to throw are ahead of the game..

While Delpit isn't at the level of Hurts, Madubuike or Highsmith, he's still a key player and is in-line with one or two players per draft class making it to their second contract... Even looking at the other guys the Browns drafted, outside of Phillips, all contributed to some level throughout their first contract which is more than some of the other teams can say..

Did I say he “can’t draft offense”? No. I said the Browns haven’t drafted well on offense since Berry took over. Two very different things. What I said isn’t wrong. All of our good offensive players are from trades, FA, or were on the team when Berry took over.
Offensive draft picks:

1 OT Wills
3 WR Schwartz
3 WR Bell
3 WR Tillman
4 TE Bryant
4 OT Hudson
4 OT Jones
5 C Harris
5 RB Ford
5 QB DTR
6 WR DPJ
6 WR Woods
6 RB Felton
6 C Wypler
7 C Deaton

Over 50% of Berry's offensive draft picks have come on day three which is likely why the hit rate isn't too high... Harris and DPJ contributed well and Ford is at leas a rotational piece... Jury is out on Deaton and Woods who face a make or break year while it's too early to judge DTR and Wypler...

Hudson is probably playing out his last contract while Bell is playing for his next contract.. Although Bell has always produced when given a chance so here's to hoping he gets more of a chance..

Jones looks like a total hit while Schwartz was a total bust..

Wills is the only offensive player taken in the first two rounds in AB's tenure.. They've also drafted just 38% offense in Rounds 1-3 over the last five drafts..

Hopefully picking 32

But yes, will be a welcome reprieve to have a healthy number of picks and an actual first round pick to boot

What a junk caption for that tweet.

The stadium negotiation game is a loooong drawn out process that's nowhere near its conclusion yet. These bozos need to stop spreading misleading messaging like this, suggesting things are even close to being decided yet.

Just look to the Chicago back and forth between Arlington Heights and downtown for an example of how convoluted these processes get.

Yep.

And if we went for a Levis or Pickett or something, then we're talking about a potential franchise setback because we likely invest a couple of years (minimally) into that pick and miss out on better players. We've been through this ad nauseam since '99.

So this time we trade for a perennial pro bowler to add to a core that was ready to seriously contend. We're there now, we just have to figure out how to get that guy back to where he was or close to it, and keep him healthy. Might fail but I don't blame Berry for taking a swing.

What does Cleveland even have to offer? Burkley? Brook park is attractive because they have land to offer. Downtown doesn’t really have any available space large enough for the stadium. They’d have to tear down the old one if they wanted to stay.

It isn't the lack of space downtown. It's the lack of money/resources available and the lack of political will to meet the Browns halfway.

I think Cleveland lost the stadium once the downtown stadium renovation and lakefront plan that the Haslam group submitted in 2021 was responded to with indifference by the city.
