2024 Guardians Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Best record in baseball and we're banning people for half the season over a clear joke that hurt nobody's feelings?

I'll never expect this to be a place that calls it fairly (it never has been), but this seems pretty ridiculous given the prodding and poking that goes on.
who got banned?

You must have missed the posts that were deleted. He started it by asking someone to change their avatar because it was political and he didn’t like it.
Also, he had been warned multiple times about posts like that in a non political forum.
He’ll, I was banned for a year for calling a certain someone a B***h

3 months is a slap on the wrist.

Was that person a Bitch?

For those who are thinking we can get rid of Cookie or Lively when Williams come back healthy .... or DFA Lively/Cookie after this start instead of optioning Curry .... who is the call-up for DH or another injury after Curry?

AAA - Yes Cantillo but not until mid-late June (thus Dion for now???)
Others - Gillespie, Oiler, Barria, Kent/Parsons
AA - Webb and Mace is it .... now that Nikhazy and Hankins are down
Others - Davenport (Carver has been a reliever, same as Leftwitch and Stanley)

So, if we need 8-9 starters further into the season, you need at least one of Lively/Cookie if not both to pair with Cantillo and Curry (as for these 4 + 4 other starters in Bibee, McK, Williams and Allen) = only 8 even with Dion as 9. So, you got to hide one of Lively/Cookie in long-relief with other as 5th starter even when Williams comes back (with Curry in AAA). Yes, Curry maybe better than Lively or Cookie but do we want to rely on Dion or Kent as a the next long-term fill-in (with Curry up already as 5th starter)????

Tough call....

Bit of an odd choice to add. Has been awful in relief this year after mixing in starts last year. Walks way too many, along with hitting guys. Not sure how they see him fitting in. Cash was probably not enough to feed a family of 4 at McDonald's.
Yeah I don't get it either.

So both Tobias Myers and the "other" Logan Allen have been called up to MLB today.

Arms are dropping like flies. I like that our FO has amassed so much depth in AAA.

Though we lost Nikhazy to an oblique strain, so that doesn't help...

We have made sure we have depth at least and that 21 draft group, they all are fighting for big league spots in 25...

This is where the rubber meets the road..

His "numbers" are, in fact, pretty lousy.. but find some videos.. (padres / phillies game in early September of 2023).. A mid 90's fastball with sink.. a HAMMER curve ball and a change up.. After season(s) being wiped out for Tommy John and other maladies.. he's got some moxie.. Who he reminds you of, coughsalazariancough, is anyone's guess.. but he can bring it from the right side.. If Carl Willis can sprinkle some MPS III on him, the Guardians may have something..

A bit of "overt" optimism here.. but It's easy to see what the Guardians see.. & what Pedro Avila is and can be..

Not sure they ever ask players about targets, but Barlow did pitch with him last year in San Diego.

Looking at last year, San Diego was clearly pitching desperate. He was called up at mid-season with an 8.57 ERA and 1.85 WHIP at AAA. That may be a futility record for a guy with over 50 minor league innings at time of call-up. In his favor, he was much better than that in the majors.

The issue is 1/2 the depth that they acquired are more relievers now than starters. And, as Cookie and Lively have no options, they are going to clog up the 5th/Long-man roles which is fine as we really only have Curry behind them. Any one else stockpiled (like Kent or Oiler) ain't really moving the needle to jettison either Cookie or Lively.

Yet, it is the relievers that we are adding like Avila but were they really needed? We added Wes Parsons today but in reality, Enright or a Gose (and Aleman soon) could have just as easily been added and done the job. And, being the 8th man in the pen -- you are just hoping their arm doesn't fall off in a meaningless game as their role as an innings eater guys.

I didn't see anyone post the moves that where made today...

Eli Morgan to the 15 day IL, (right shoulder inflammation)

Angel Martinez to the 60 day IL (broken Hamate bone)

Curry optioned to AAA

Ben Lively and Wes Parsons promoted to the Guardians

Pedro Avila traded to the Guardians

It's likely Parsons is up until Avila is with the team...

Yes, we should have given him his 7th Warning.

Especially after a mod told him to stop his out of the blue attack on another poster, rather than clamp down on him, and he responded to a friendly warning by openly engaging in more banned behavior.

We are terribly unfair by expecting people to act like adults.

The irony.
