2024 Guardians Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Alright, back on topic... Bauer isn't gonna sign with Cleveland, but I think someone should sign him...

Now, that being said, we will look by the trade deadline at what the prices of Blackburn are and any other team who isn't in contention with SPs under shorter term contracts and see if we can make a deal that makes sense.

Not sure who will be available, but Cleveland will try and find reinforcements in due time... The bullpen will definitely be fine talent wise....
It's a long way until the trading deadline. a lot of things can happen including a lot of good things.

Just as a blast from the past, I was looking at the pitching staff from that year...

Dave freaking Burba led team with most IP, but also names from that year - Bartolo, Nagy, Jaret Wright, Shuey, Assenmacher, Tom Candiotti....

And also, that was Manny's 165 rbi year, PLUS, Robbie had 120 rbis, Sexton had 116, Thome had 108, and Dave Justice had 88.

And Sandy behind the plate, Omar and Robbie up the middle, Lofton in center... say no more...
Given I was birthed in '91 this was the roster that locked me in to loving The Tribe! What a fun run of seasons and WS appearances, those were monumental for cementing my Cleveland sports fandom. During summers we would always would listen to Tommy Ham call the games while driving south down I-71 as my moonlighted as an RN instructor down in Columbus on certain weekends.

Let's Go Cleveland! & Thanks for that espresso shot of nostalgia @MikeOC33 !!!!!

Kaepernick wasn't really that good... IF he was as good as you say, and as dedicated to the sport, he would have been back in the league. He refused to take a backup role period. He refused to take a pay cut... He was a lot more full of himself that way...

Yeah, it was definitely NOT about dedication to the sport.

Those things were all reported and none of them were true, but you believe them.

Which is how these things are supposed to work.

Bauer is full of himself for sure, but he is also willing to take a pay cut. He is way more reasonable than you believe. He is willing to sign with any team to prove his worth. No one ever complained about his dedication or his knowledge of the game.

So he’s willing to play for less and nobody wants him.

Weird.

It’s okay to just say I’m right that he’s made himself radioactive and stop trying to talk yourself into a terrible argument otherwise.

Why is Ozuna and Chapman still playing when they were actually charged and Bauer isn't... Both were charged for domestic violence/battery and yet Bauer, as much as people don't like the dude, was never arrested or paid out any hush money to anyone....

Weird, huh?

It’s like you’re almost getting the point…

What could possibly be the separating factor here?

Could it be that Bauer is such a cunt that he’s not getting the same second chances other players have?

Because that’s the point you can’t quite seem to grasp.

Bauer spoke out against Manfred and other leaders. He actually was the leading voice against these TV deals and blackouts people complain about.

He’s not a leading voice, he’s one of many and speaking out against Manfred or blackouts. Trying to score cheap points with fans isn’t some admirable qualify for a guy who nobody wants in spite of his talent and willingness to play for less.

Bauer has a whole career ahead of him as a sports commenter with a podcast and the whole social media bit…

He could be the next Aubrey Huff.

I want to quote this post because this is absolutely fuckin’ right.

Great job statman

First off, there was an investigation and Bauer hasn't been convicted or proven to be involved in anything illegal, but He was "black-balled" because of the accusations and is still "black-balled" after the information has been made public. No team wants to touch Bauer in fear of scrutiny. In fact, some of his accusers are being charged with crimes. There is certainly a cloud hanging over his head and that is absolutely, 100% of his own doing. His personal shit became public as opposed to the dumb fuck that is Kaepernick that made his stupid personal opinion public and rightfully got lambasted for it. I mean how stupid do you have to be to protest and entire country and then expect the vast majority of that country to join forces with you protesting them. It's a terrible comparison.

I was glad to see Bauer exited out of Cleveland after his dumbass outburst. It was stupid and he deserved the repercussions of his actions. While unfortunate for Trevor, I'm finding it difficult to muster any empathy toward him. He put himself in that situation and as an incredibly rich athlete and supposedly intelligent individual, he should have known better. The questions for me are 1) Has he matured? 2) Would he be an asset 3) Have the stupid antics come to an end? Therefore I don't disagree with what you said about Bauer's behavior. I just don't know how much of them are true. Clearly the outburst was 5 yrs ago is. I don't recall Trevor being an issue in the Reds dugout or him being a "general annoyance everywhere he's been".

A good comparison for Trevor would be President Bill Clinton.

His issues with the Guardians specifically go beyond his sexual misconduct allegations.

The sex violence allegations might be why 29 other teams aren’t signing him, but for the Guardians that’s not the only reason.

Sometimes things go beyond “is this guy a better pitcher than who we’re having throw every 5th day?”, ya know?

Plus, I don't know that he'd want to be back here either given the way things wrapped up.

His vlog stuff of him attending games directly after such never sat well with Tito & Management, nor should it have!

No, but there are other allegations out there

Its just nice to know with all of the incredible writeups @Wham with the Right Hand does for all the sports, we have proof he is actually human and not an AI Bot, lol
@Wham with the Right Hand

Still believe he'd make a hell of a sports writer, and he essentially is solely for our benefit at this stage.

Hell, I consider him almost in the Pluto echelon as is when it comes to 216 sports coverage.

His Gameday Write-up Threads for both Los Cavaliers & Los Guarditos Series are unrivaled in their insights, data and overall verbiage/prose!

If the Guardians lose the ALDS 3-2 and the primary reason is bad starting pitching, are you going to regret not singing Bauer? I really don't see the risk on a 1 year vet minimum deal when you can release him at any time.

I don't know if there's a potential contender in the MLB as desperate for starting pitching as the Guardians.Guardian's. The starters never go past 5 innings lol
