2024 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Minor Observations, Friday Edition:

Not sure there is anyone in the Columbus lineup that would help right now. J. Rodriguez is already extracting the most of his abilities, improved plate discipline, but too much swing and miss. He's probably a RH version of Florial.

I'm getting really nervous watching Manzardo ABs. Swing looks stiff and exploitable. I'm starting to see what FG report of him sees, and I'm not happy abut it. I hope this is just a minor approach fix away from being a plus ML bat, but right now, he wouldn't help. This swing won't hit for average and if the power is just average too, what 1B/DH profile is that? Jake Bauers? Rays might have fooled CLEFO again. I hope I'm just over evaluating SSS here, but I'd feel better just scouting the statline with Manzardo, because the eye test is meh.

Dion looked better, but gave up a lot late. Still believe in him, but needs more time. Gose looks good.

DeLauter is getting pitched around and getting himself out right now, because naturally he wants to hit. AA pitchers already know how to get weak contact out of him, golfing a lot of lazy fly balls. He also looks late on everything compared to ST, an indication that he's too much in his own head right now.

Tommy Mace looked much improved with a second straight good start. FB was mentioned at 93 once. There's still hope here.

Kody Huff is looking pretty good both at and behind the plate, especially for a prospect that skipped a level. Might have found a good one here.

The Lava, Huff, Ingle/Tincher, R. Lopez/Mejias/Ralphy catching depth (and Izturis/J. Cedeno in AZL) is pretty strong now. Some ML C in there.

Otoh, Milan Tolentino looks like he's plateauing, very weak PAs so far and Joe Lampe is totally over matched. Two prospects the org seems to really like, but I've yet to see why.

Really like the Lake County lineup full of tough outs that grind out ABs. Cooper Ingle looks good, if he can fake it at C, he's very valuable.
Guy Lipscomb hit a couple of deep shots, one was barely caught in straight CF, the other banged off the wall for a triple. If the power comes, we're looking at a top prospect with 70 speed, good CF defense and already good polished approach. Best looking player on the team.

Alex Mooney just has something douchey about him, lol. Totally unprofessional take, but he looks like a future Yankee.

Hajjar got like 4 whiffs out of his first 5-6 pitches and then randomly totally lost his control. Frustrating to watch but the stuff is there. He's the only hope for a return in the Benson deal. OF Boyd is old/level and still looks overmatched, only hitter who's not shown anything yet from that LC team.

Lynchburg camera feed is a mess, hard to evaluate those games. Also evidently more sloppy played games than the other levels.
Clemmey is wild and years of polish away. Chourio looks like the real deal out of the bunch. Antunez hits the ball hard, but very unlucky so far.

I liked the action on Will Dion's fastball.. seemed to really pop out of his hand & was on these hitters before they had a chance to get a good swing on it.. Of course, that was during his first inning.. I turned it off after that..

Loved the "douche-y" description of Mooney.. Sort of a captures what "the yankee way" really is.. a combination of arrogance + bullshit...

Ingle is a good one.. no bout a doubt it..

It's not good when you act like Paul O'Neill but don't have Paul O'Neill's talent.

Re: DeLauter

I think everyone has experienced that time where you feel like you do everything right at your job and you just get the shaft instead, or even if that hasn't been the case you have noticed it happen to others. And typically what follows is not peak performance.

IMO, sending him to AA is a joke and really sends the wrong message regarding what you need to do to get promoted.

I actually spent a decent amount of time working at a company where it became clear that there was no way to get promoted faster, just slower. So yeah you know what kind of effort that inspired... Just enough to get to the next level on schedule before trying to find my way out the door.

I don't know who was saying something about Manzardo's swing being stiff, but they're full of shit. His swing is compact, he barrells the ball and most importantly he hits it hard.

Both Brito and Manzardo look like mature hitters that are ready or damn close to it.

Rodriguez is coming around after a slow start. We need to get a look at him before the break.

Noel just hit a line drive over the leftcenter field wall. I'm guessing 115 easily. It was f'n blasted.

Meh, I think the quality of pitching is as good or better in AA. Remember, most of the best prospects are there.

I think the issue with that company is fairly common in today's world.

It's common but the risk is obvious when it does. And not all companies are like that, mainly those who are more confident in assessing what they got. It leads to really bad talent leakage and demotivation.

And CDL has been facing equal to AA or better pitching for an extended period of time and this is his first sign of really looking off his game. The mental impact of being sent to AA after being the best player on the MLB squad should not be understated.

Just because that's the way things are often done doesn't mean it is right or smart.

While DeLauter's talent screams AAA he just doesn't have the reps. This is probably totally inaccurate, but I don't think they are motivated to have Manzardo and DeLauter battle for ROY. I look for Manzardo to get a quick promotion and for DeLauter to spend the majority of the first half in Columbus with a late season call up to preserve his rookie status for 2025.

I don't really see a Manzardo promotion imminent until he makes the case himself. I think having 2 ROY candidates is the least of their concern.

But yeah I do think you are right about The Plan which they are playing with their cards face up. Which is why it is so especially frustrating for a guy like CDL. He is being held back because of The Plan which is completely out of his control.

I think Manzardo will be in cleveland by the end of May, but we'll see.

I agree that DeLauter's promotion is out of his control....partially. He still has to perform, but I don't think there is any reason to believe he won't.
