2024 Season | Series #11 | Angels @ Guardians | May 3-5, 2024

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
When Jose and Josh aren’t hitting, the offense struggles.
But good golly where would we ever put Manzardo at??? (Seems to be the combative comment around here)

If that was the problem, then what a terrible trade we've made.

Yeah. Theres a list of replaceable players he'd be taking ABs from.

I believe we are now 2 games out of 4th place.
We're pissin' our good start away.
It's time to make a roster move.

Amen. If he's ready then get him the fk up here. I'm sick of this service time manipulation bullshit. Yea, yea for whoever wants to tell me I'll be mad about it when he hits free agency earlier. I'll worry about that then. I got news for you, Jose isn't getting any younger. So Florial, Laureano, Arias, Rocchio might lose some AB's. Who cares. Is anyone going to argue any of those guys are better prospects than Manzardo?

How many times are we going to have to watch Rocchio drop the ball trying to transfer it from his glove to make a throw? Two more times tonight. Probably four or five this year.

Strzelecki with two scoreless innings on top of the two scoreless the first time he was up. He's looking good so far. Hentges should be ready so I'm not sure who will go to make room for him. Avila?

Soriano was unhittable tonight. Good time for Bibee to have a bad game since we were going to lose anyway.

Kwan got two more hits and Bo Naylor finally got one. I think he had been 0-for-12. Freeman was 0-for-4 and down to .189. I can't believe it. I thought he could hit.

Twins and Royals keep winning but at least the Tigers lost 2-1 to the Yankees. The Central is getting to be a very tough division.

Game 2 preview:

Ben Lively makes his fourth start as a Guardian against Reid Detmers, a 24-year-old lefty. Detmers is off to a great start at 3-2, 3.12 ERA. His first four starts were spectacular as his ERA was 1.19. But in his last two starts he allowed nine earned runs, so let's hope we get that version of Detmers rather than the earlier one.

This is already Detmers' fourth season. Last year he was 4-10, 4.48. He has a career ERA of 4.24 in 64 starts. Current Guardians are hitting .333/1.042 against him. Kwan is 3-for-5 and Jose is 3-for-8.

The first three times batters face Detmers in a game they're hitting .170, .235, and .346, so the more they see him the easier he is to hit. The key is getting runners on base in the first three innings to turn the lineup over twice by the fifth inning or so.

In three starts Ben Lively has pitched 15.2 innings with a 2.30 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP. He's been outstanding so far. Hopefully he can keep it up and start getting through six innings consistently. Lively only has walked 3 batters against 19 K's, so he pounds the zone. We may really have something here but we'll need to see a few more starts.

Still waiting for Jose and Josh Naylor to break out of their slumps, although Naylor had a single last night and Jose hit a couple of balls hard. Tyler Freeman is a mess; his average is well below the Mendoza line. He's actually a worse hitter than Straw.

The Guardians have lost six of nine. In the six losses they scored 0, 0, 2, 2, 3, and 9 runs. Two of the runs were automatic runners in extra innings, so they actually scored a total of 14 runs in the six losses.

Bo Naylor and Freeman need to start hitting. Arias has one hit in his last ten at-bats.

I don't understand the Rocchio and transfer issue. He split time in the minors between 2B and SS, but the ratio was about 4 to 1 SS to 2B. He had 116 games at SS between Columbus and Cleveland last year, 17 or 21 in the Venezuelan league over the winter and all 28 games so far in Cleveland this year.

I could see if it was a situation like Andres playing 90% of his games in the minors at SS and then moving over to 2B in the majors.

Is it mental processing/rushing and thinking instead of muscle memory and doing?

I think it's him rushing to get the ball to first. He doesn't have a great arm. So he can't fuck around. Needs to get it out. No excuse. He's supposed to be a smart defender. So I think it's a mental thing.

Strzelecki will likely be the option candidate when Hentges is ready...

Beede we will try to keep internally but I don't know how that will work out since he has been hardy and teams need pitching.

My guess is, we likely ride Avila as the mop up man for awhile aka following Carrasco possibly... I wouldn't even be surprised to see Avila changing how he uses his pitches either... You could even start to see a Sinker plus Sweeper focus on right handers and 4-seam plus changeup against LH with the curveball/other pitches being mixed in on both sides.

I actually wouldnt even be surprised to see Avila and Carrasco possibly piggyback off of each other IF they want to extend Avila out...

Cookie is done. He's a huge liability wherever they pitch him. Have a Cookie bobblehead night and thank him for the memories.
