23 Offseason - Other Team Needs and Actions

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I wonder if he was a guy who was pushed to fast up the ladder? I feel like he just never got his bat around. Maybe a restart at A ball and work his way back up is in order?
looks like the Covid year cooked him to me. Who knows what he did in 2020.

Some team will give him a chance to rework his stuff in the minors but I bet it won't be the Guards.

We aren't one to turn away a former top prospect if he doesn't have personality issues...

This guy has no idea what is coming from the pitcher's hand.. none.. zero.. zilch.. It's not the swing.. it's his ability to see and react.. No one is going to make him much more than he is right now..

EZ pass on having anything to do with him...

It's his first waiver so unless a team is going to put him on the 40, which we won't, he will just go into their minor league system. I said a month ago that there would be a lot of good prospect/players like Miller or Downs who were on the cusp that would be good gambles at this time of the year as the relief FA market starts to heat up.

So what teams are still in need of a SS? ATL and both LA teams? Would any of them even have any interest in Amed?

Sincerely, it's very very unlikely Amed is going anywhere now...

I don't know how you can even think that is reasonable? It makes no sense whatsoever to keep him around and watch him walk in FA. There is nothing to gain by doing so.

Edited to say that Rosario isn't alone in this boat. Clearly they intend to keep Bieber because he is the ace of this staff, but are they going to go into next season with all of Quantrill, Civale and Plesac with 2 yrs of control left and all of the SP prospects with another year of experience? I don't know when, but at some point there will be some of these guys on the move IMO.

all three teams and perhaps a couple others would have interest..

Atlanta has no interest in Amed. The Braves are committed to Grissom, and will use Arcia as the backup plan.

The Dodgers just acquired Rojas, and then extended him for two years, with an option.

The Angels traded for Urshela, even though they have Rendon. They didn't bring Gio in to sit on the bench every day.

You can wish, hope, and pray all you want...but Amed is our SS.

It makes sense, because the org wants to win now, and Amed gives us the best chance to do so. It makes as much sense as bringing in Bell and Zunino, even though both will probably be gone next year, without us getting anything in return.

If other teams are only offering peanuts, then sometimes the best course is to take a players production and let them walk at the end. If every player gets traded before FA because 'value' then you end up like the As. If the team truly has figured out how to draft finally then you can run out the string with productive guys like Amed.

Stating that Amed(an average player) gives us the best chance to win is nothing but a best guess when considering the worst case scenario with the other options. Funny how someone can suggest that ATL will have no interest in him because they are committed to their prospect yet Amed "gives us the best chance to win".

Stating that keeping Amed is on the same level as acquiring Bell and Zunino is laughable.

If Amed was going to be moved, it would have been by now. He's here for 23 in all probability... You don't have to believe me, but don't be surprised if he finishes the season in Cleveland

Amed is here for one more year. Zunino is here for one year. Bell is probably here for one year. Exact same thing.

Amed is warming a spot for Rocchio. Zunino is warming a spot for Bo. Bell is warming a spot for either Noel or Valera, with Oscar moving to DH. Exact same thing.

It would be great to have a kid take over a regular position and be average. Unfortunately, it doesnt happen often.

Of course, in some folks minds, Miller-Chang-Mejia-Zimmer-Bradley-Frazier-Marte-Laporta-(the list is endless) never happened.

Amed is a $7.8M dingleberry that just won't let go. He doesn't improve our chances of winning and he's in the way. He has no versatility and he isn't good defensively. He's fast, but he doesn't get on base very well. He has modest power at best. He hit 11 HR in 637 AB for God's sake. He only hit 26 2B in those same 637 AB.

17 kids took over last year and propelled this team to a division title and a playoff appearance in spite of Amed's averageness along with Straw and Hedges' terrible offensive performances. I'll take my chances on a few more kids thank you very much. Doesn't happen very often? It fucking happens all the time every year. Even the list of Miller-Chang-Mejia-Zimmer-Bradley-Frazier-Marte-LaPorta is flawed. Miller is still young and performed better than Amed through June 21. Frazier was a far superior player to Amed before his concussion. I encourage everyone to look at his numbers. Mejia has carved out a ML career. LaPorta was showing great promise before his career ending injuries. Zimmer suffered a shoulder injury that basically kept him out for 2 yrs. I'd take the 2 season where he had 299 AB each and OPS' of 80 and 85 over Straw's OPS of 65. Bradley and Chang were marginal prospects from the get go that had big power. They are not the same as our best prospects now in the system.

Amed is around probably because there are no takers. He's not part of the future plans so the worst case scenario is to watch him be in the way for one more season. Like I said.....kicking the can down the road.
