All-Time Indians RCF Fantasy Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
With my 7th round pick, the Wailing Wahoos select Grady Sizemore, Center Fielder.

Career w/ Cleveland: 2004-2011
Career Stats w/ Cleveland: .269 BA, .830 OPS, 139 HR, 216 2B, 43 3B, 134 SB, 458 RBI, 3x All-Star, 2x Gold Glove, 1x Silver Slugger

Grady Sizemore was truly one of the Indian greats of the 2000s. Before injuries sapped his athletisicm and batting prowess, Sizemore was probably considered one of the better players in the American League. A speedy outfielder who played Gold Glove defense and was also a 30-30 threat (something he accomplished in 2008), Sizemore was an offensive and defensive anchor for the Indians in the mid-2000s. Unfortunately, his reckless style of play and overall durability problems had him injured fairly often in his mid-20s, and he was all but washed up by his age 27 season in 2010, a time when most guys really just start to hit their prime. Sizemore bounced around with Boston, Philly, and Tampa Bay before hanging it up after the 2015 season at age 32.

Sizemore's best season for me was in 2006. He played all 162 games and hit .290/.375/.533/.907 with 28 HR, 53 2B, 11 3B, 76 RBI, 134 R, 190 H, 22 SB, 133 OPS+, a 6.6 WAR, an all-star appearance, and an 11th place finish in the MVP voting.

It's crazy to think that if Sizemore had aged gracefully, there would be an outside chance that he would still be playing today at age 37. A sad example of how injuries can sap a promising career.

My roster thus far:
SP - Corey Kluber
SP - Sam McDowell
CP - Andrew Miller

CF - Grady Sizemore
SS - Omar Vizquel
RF - Albert Belle
3B - Jose Ramirez

@sportscoach is on the clock

Well since it’s my pick...

C/1B Carlos Santana

I am going away from my drafting older players to getting one of the better in recent memory for the Indians and you honestly have to do his current season for his best season overall. This guy will eventually be one of the Indians leaders in a lot of categories!

@daddywags is on the clock!

My 7th round pick is Luis Tiant. Although he had a decent 6-year career with the Tribe, 2.84 ERA, 120 ERA+, 1.43 WHIP, I'm going to pull the single season card and go with 1968.

In a year for pitchers Tiant really stood out. He was 21-9 and led the league in ERA 1.60, ERA+ 186, FIP 2.04, WAR for pitchers 8.5, and shutouts with 9. He was second in WHIP 0.871 and complete games 19, and third in strikeouts 264. He started the All Star game and came in 5th in MVP voting.

So my top three starters are Coveleski, Lemon and 1968 Tiant.

@PIP is up.

I was looking at him to be honest! Lol

Please name your ten
Keep in mind, I'm playing by @Stark's policy of looking at single seasons.

No order:

Roberto Perez
Yan Gomes
Victor Martinez
Sandy Alomar Jr.
Kelly Shoppach
Johnny Romano
Duke Sims
Steve O'Neill
Ray Fosse
Joe Azcue
Einar Diaz

There's 11, and I didn't include Carlos because he was so bad defensively after his leg injury that he only had one 2+ WAR season as an Indians catcher. Hegan certainly has longevity on his side, but he simply doesn't belong in the upper echelon of Indians catchers. It's really Victor and then everyone else.

2001 Einar Diaz is a stud.

You do realize that Hegan, sitting aside Victor, Sandy and perhaps O’Neil has more All Star nods than your entire list

Yeah but his offensive numbers are basically pre-2019 Roberto Perez

Danny Salazar has the same amount of all-star appearances as Carlos Carrasco, Mike Clevinger, and Trevor Bauer combined.

Jason Kipnis and Jose Ramirez are tied in all-star appearances.

Obviously your better players will tend to make more all star games over a long career, but I don’t measure who a better player is based on that.
