Andre Drummond - LeBron's Robin

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

I guess we didn't trade TT.
It's been said multiple times..teams don't value him as high . Now I did hear something about Houston didn't have enough to pay him a extension...so is that on Klutch for wanting a boatload salary for him?

We got a few months to try him out for almost nothing. I'm all for it. He's our new best player on the team or close to it.

Houston didn't have the contracts to get him unless they were going to get rid of PJ Tucker.

It was that HOU didn't have enough players they were willing to trade that agreggated into the salary amount necessary for a TT trade to work under the salary cap rules

How in the world can we go into the deadline with like $70M of expiring contracts and come out with less picks than we started with? We couldn't be a 3rd team in one of these other trades? What are we doing?

No one wanted expirings I guess. Sign and trade or Opt in and trade or just regular trades might be where teams build this off-season. TT, Drummond, and Love could be part of some sort of trade come the opening of free agency in the summer.

From Bleacher Report:

"Blake Griffin, who is owed $36.6 million next season with a $38.96 million player option for 2021-22, continues to have knee issues and had another surgery on Jan. 7 that could end his season.

Given the issues with Griffin, dealing Drummond is the easiest way for the Pistons to accrue future assets that can help them become a consistent playoff contender in the East. He's a dominant post presence, averaging 17.8 points per game to go along with 15.8 rebounds.

The Cavs' decision to trade for Drummond is odd on the surface but justifiable given the almost complete lack of opportunity cost. Neither Knight nor Henson are above-average NBA role players, and the second-round pick is an asset that can always be recouped at a later date.

Drummond has his flaws in the modern NBA, but he's one of the league's best rebounders. The Cavs will also have Bird rights for a potential sign-and-trade if Drummond opts out this summer and wants to head elsewhere."

I guess the Pistons didn't want to take the chance on having to pay him $28.5 million if they're also paying Griffin $36.6.

I don't understand the part about the Bird rights. If he wants to go elsewhere why wouldn't he just become a free agent?

Pistons fans are rejoicing on their forums and telling Cavs fans not to get too excited. The consensus is that Drummond doesn't give full effort, sulks a lot, and is a terrible defender.

I agree with all this. TT just had 30 something points on him. I will take him for nothing though.

The FA market is complete shit. The other teams that had cap aside from the Cavs who took Drummond which eats our cap. The Hawks took Capela and Dedmon eating their cap. Then Grizz took Winslow and Waiters. Pistons going to be only team with ample cap. Everyone waiting for 2021.

From the Detroit Free Press:

"But the game changed on Drummond and the Pistons.

Teams prefer 3-point shooting at all five positions and Drummond is a traditional center, who lacks an offensive game outside the paint. And though he has improved defensively and is one of the league's best playmakers generating steals and blocks, he's not an elite rim protector such as Rudy Gobert.

Some fans grew weary of Drummond’s inconsistent effort. It reached the nadir last season in Game 3 of the Bucks’ four-game sweep of the Pistons in the first round of the playoffs, when a poor-performing Drummond was booed at Little Caesars Arena by fans.

Drummond still has value. He’s a great rebounder and he has quick feet, a needed talent to defend pick-and-rolls.

But it’s not worth the maximum five-year, $127 million contract he signed in the summer of 2016."

Finally, a much-needed rim protector. The defensive deficiencies of Garland, Sexton, Cedi and Love won't be as big an issue now.

That is the problem though, he doesn't protect the rim well.

Drummond really losing that NBA geographical lottery LOL. But at least he’s getting paid.

Exactly, might as well have good players that you can trade in some form to set up the summer than Henson or Knight who teams can sign for part of the MLE or minimum. Knight's NBA career might be over.

Someone might be willing to pay TT more than the MLE and would be willing to give up a bad contract and a pick to do so. TT would be dumb to make himself a buyout player at his age. Buyout players rarely get a big contract again, they usually end up vet minimum players for the rest of their career.

Also, Cavs fans DGAF about Money. We are paying Drummond almost 30M? We don't care. Maybe we will maybe we won't give him a big extension, but I would love to pay him TT money after Next year.
