Andre Drummond - LeBron's Robin

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Same goes for Nance and Love, there aren't center minutes to be soaked up now. They now have to split the 48 PF minutes. If Love isn't trying on defense or Nance refuses to give our guards the ball, Beilein can yank one for the other.

yeah the more I think about it, I really like this.

I don't get it.

Last season the front office traded some vets for picks. It worked out because 2019 was a good draft deep in talent.

This year the draft looks much more hit or miss from the top down. Less teams are in need of cap space and the Cavs saw a bad seller's market for their front court veterans. So, they flipped to being buyers in hopes that they have their answer for defense and rim protection going forward.

There isn't just one way to rebuild.

Doesn’t this bring the risk of making us a better team? Are we in danger of losing our draft pick?
LOL! Honestly I wouldn't play him till after the break and then load manage him for the rest of the year. I think we'll still be a bottom 3 team in league with Atlanta getting better.

Yeah I suppose... I think this could become a great trade if the FO convinces Drummond to take a reasonable extension (nothing close to a max contract). If they don't agree on something like that, I hope they don't extend at all since the Cavs didn't give up much for him anyway. The worst possible outcome is signing Drummond to another albatross contract.

A lot of people have been conditioned to believe that rebuilding needs to follow the philosophy that you are bad, then suddenly become good.

That's not how good teams rebuild. Whether Drummond becomes a vital piece moving forwards, no one truly knows. What I do know is that fostering a culture of wanting to win games and driving players towards that goal is extremely important to young players. Give them something to aim for and create a culture of winning.

This should be a franchise that does everything it can to win games. Much like the Miami Heat, who never really bottomed out and now look like they could be an eastern conference contender for a long time. Get some players, see what happens and then move on from there.

Seeing what it cost the Cavaliers and the potential upside, I don't think I've seen the Cavs make a better move than this in a non-LeBron Cavs team since I've been alive.

Yeah better than anything we did in the last rebuild. It was also very very cheap in terms of assets. KPJ was more expensive.

We will get to see our young guys with a legit true center. Very excited to have him and nice to have a big man threat underneath with Love as a shooter. Great job Koby!

I applaud those sentiments, true tanking is horrendous for everyone involved in the day to day process of it, kills motivation, creates poor habits in young players and engenders disillusionment in the vets being asked to play pointless games(from their perspective)

Fascinated by this move, Love and Drummond would appear to fit together better than Griffin and Drummond and the need for a physical prescence inside was massive, especially given the defensive issues with Garland and Sexton. Getting Drummond to buy in will be the issue but if he does, rolling with a Drummond/Love/Osman/Porter/Sexton starting 5 could make the rest of the season semi-watchable.

Bound to be other moves on the verge though.

It's funny how one unexpected move can change your outlook.
Before today I was very down on the Cavs outlook. It was hard to see a plan.
Now let's look ahead.
Drummond should opt in because it's the smart thing to do.
If we don't get a strong offer for Love, we keep him and he's back to his normal complimentary player spot. He should be very effective next to Drummond.
Then we add a top draft pick to the mix. BPA. Now put a wing like Dylan Windler in the rotation.
Ultimately we will have to split up Sexton/Garland. But a trade should bring a strong return.
Maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel

You did not even mention Porter who could be the best player on the team in 2 years.

Damn it feels good to have a center.
Gonna be weird for sure. I'd love for him to opt in to his player option and run this team back + Windler + a pro ready wing in the draft + and another 3&D wing added via the MLE in FA
