Andre Drummond - LeBron's Robin

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Actually, Drummond was given a huge contract by Stan Van Gundy, who loved Drummond. SVG designed his entire offense around Reggie Jackson running the pick-n-roll with Drummond. It was pretty effective too. Drummond had his two best years as an All Star with SVG coaching and Jackson as PG.

But then Jackson kept getting chronically injured and missing half the seasons. Finally, someone in the front office, probably Tom Gores himself, freaked out and traded for Griffin, in a desperate move. After that is was over. Griffin ate up 33% of the payroll, and was injured all the time along with Jackson. And Griffin and Drummond had terrible chemistry together.

So after SVG was fired, Drummond fell out of favor in Detroit, and was traded to the Cavs for a bag of basketballs. Now the Pistons are the worst team in the league.
There was also a pretty significant shift in offensive strategy throughout the NBA during the SVG years in Detroit.

During the 2015-16 season (SVG's 2nd season and Drummond's first AS appearance), the Pistons had an Offensive Rating of 106.1, which was good enough for 13th in the league.

The next season, the Pistons had a 106.0 Offensive Rating, now just 24th in the league. Last year, 106.1 would have been the second-worst in the league.

Still, I would love it if the Cavs just used him as a PnR guy with Garland and Sexton. I hope that's what they do when they get healthy. The less Drummond is used as an initiator and playmaker, the better. He can have an All-NBA type impact if they can just make him a net neutral offensive player.

Featuring Drummond on offense makes me puke, I get that we're down numerous play makers so hopefully that changes once we're healthy. Unless Drummond accepts the role of PnR & rim protector he's not a good fit here. Honestly, when our team is healthy we don't need much offense from the 5 spot, just someone who sets good screens and does all the dirty work.

He really is able to impose his will at times, and then make it a one on one contest that gives he game away. HE really lost that game last night. The Cavs had taken control with his help and then he gave it right back.

Andre Drummond giveth, Andre Drummond taketh away.

He powered us back into the game, then we insisted on feeding him late and he did that "look, I can dribble ok for a big guy" thing and let a winnable game go. The TO's in general were horrible for the team, but his late game ones were almost all results of trying to do shit he shouldn't do.

Right now with us down so many ball handlers, I will give Drummond a pass. You guys are harsh on him, and has proven to be somewhat bonehead, but he is super talented on defense and rebounding and has an ok post game. When we get our backcourt players back, lets see how he fits after 10+ games in JB's system. Right now he is being forced to step up, could be the same ole same ole after we are healthy, we just don't know right now.

Again, I feel compelled to point this out. You can complain about Andre all you want. But when he doesn’t play, the Cavs revert back to the same horrible, non-competitive team they were before Drummond arrived.

Drummond is the only player keeping the Cavs in most of these games, and last night’s game was proof of that.

And IMO, it helps all of the younger players to develop if the environment is competitive. IMO, guys like Sexton, Garland and Okoro are going to develop a lot faster, if they are playing in winnable games instead of getting blown out most nights. My point is, Drummond will help this team develop moving forward; the Cavs should resign Drummond.

i disagree, I think having a big who doesn’t know how to play off the ball or set screens harms the development of our young guys. The touches Drummond demands don’t fit in with modern nba basketball, we are better when he plays solely due to his fantastic rim protection, but he definitely harms our offense.

if he could shoot free throws then I’d accept his post touches or maybe even his silly iso 1v1 drives. But the dude just kills our offense and what is the point of attacking the rim and drawing fouls if you shoot 50% at the line.

At this point starting to put more blame on the coaching staff then Drummond because McGee is also doing a lot of the same nonsense. So obviously they are somehow ok with this.

So my hope and theory is we are allowing this to get his trade value up.

It’s hard to believe Rudy Gobert will make an average of $39 million a year over the next 5 1/2 years. He had 4 points, 10 rebounds and a block last night in 25 minutes.

What does that make Drummond worth?

About as much as it would take to set our franchise back 5 years :D

Rudy was a massive overpay but he does do lots of little things that don’t show in the stat sheet

Well, Gobert’s team won by 30 and wins 50+ every year. So, Drummond is worth significantly less. Maybe if Drummond were willing to play like Gobert on offense, he might sniff that kind of money.

This team is a disaster with or without Drummond on the floor right now due to our ridiculous amount of injuries. We literally put a G-League team on the floor tonight.

I guess once we're healthy we'll see what Drummonds role becomes. His best fit for us would be for him to become a rim protector, rebounder and a better screen setter. Scoring 18 pts on 20 shots just isn't going to cut it in the league. I feel like we can get cheaper bigs that actually fit better with our young play making wings.

Watching Mcgee last night going coast to coast several times was just painful, do other teams do this too?

That's crazy money for a role player, 39 Mil per year!! His offensive numbers have really dipped this season for some reason but he's still playing good defense while getting 13 reb and 2.6 blk.

You sound ridiculous saying that nonsense...
