Austin Carr is Too Awesome and is the Best!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
My son does not get to watch the games, but I still email him some of the dumb things Austin says and we get a nice laugh. I know the email is then forwarded to at least one other guy. Here are a couple of examples:

"It was just that extra millimeter of time that he took that got the shot blocked."
"You can't build Rome in one day."
"The ball doesn't go in the basket every night in any sport."
I didn't post this because I don't like AC. Actually, he seems like a very nice man and I wish him well. It might be nice to have a guy like Fratello who adds some analysis to the game, but if you know basketball, you don't need much analysis and listening to Austin's homerism... both in the traditional sense and in the Simpsons sense... is at least entertaining.

I think his job is to make the game enjoyable without too much analysis. At halftime and after the game you get the thoughtful guys who break down the stats. It could be that the producers want Austin to bring some fun and excitement to the action and leave the more detailed analysis to the halftime and post-game guys.

Would you rather have Brad Daugherty or AC?

Color guys aren't supposed to deliver hard hitting analysis. I like Brad and think he did a fine a job, just he's too boring to be the color guy.

Best commentators - Objectively

S tier:

Miami guys
Laker guys

A tier

Nets

Subjective to taste: Really colorful commentators. Having fun.

Hornets
Bulls
Mavericks

Knowledgeable but may not pump up your mood:

Timberwolves
Thunder
Maybe Pistons cause they love us.

Worst:

S tier:

Warriors
Rockets

A tier:
Celtics
Raptors

B+ depending on whether they are losing or winning

76ers
Clippers
Spurs

With that kind of analysis we should open a 2021 commentators draft thread.

Brad. But I like insightful commentary even if it's a little dry. Carr tends to say the same things over and over.

"Opportunity for a three-point play!!!"

"Got him a bird!"

"Cavaliers on the move!"

Etc.

Yes. But then there is Brad D.

Who would you rather have?

Probably Brad, but they were very good together. I doubt you convince Brad To travel to all the games.

John Michael is the weaker link IMO

Eh, I don't mind John Michael. He's no Joe Tait, but he does alright in my book. And AC all the way home. Deep in the Q-- I mean, wherever we're playing now.

General rule for analysts: you should be making non-obvious points once in a while. Tony Romo is great at that. Most analysts including AC aren’t.

I‘d rather have an objective or even slightly biased analyst who makes good points than a homer.

I do like AC and as a Cavalier fan I enjoy the cheerleading to an extent but I get more hearing the other team’s commentators as I learn more about how our team is viewed. Collin Sexton is highly respected around the NBA and you get the impression everyone loves watching him play which is important when they’re all in the entertainment industry.
