Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We've seen Baker look horrible throwing to every receiver though so it's weird seeing it painted as just Odell. he misses high to our TE's a lot. They're are taller so maybe he feels like he has to get the ball up higher but usually when he misses to a TE it's a high ball. That's how Njoku got hurt last season. he puts too much zip on some passes that require more touch. His pocket awareness. reliance on being rolled out. Inability to throw in the face of pressure. None of those are Odell problems or any other receiver problems. Those are all Baker problems.

Why do you keep making this a Baker vs Odell thing???

it’s so weird. It’s like you’re defending O’dell by attacking Baker. Just a completely weird stance to take.

Baker has been okay the majority of this season and really bad against the Ravens and Steelers.

Its also simply a fact that Baker has been much worse when targeting Odell vs the rest of the roster. He clearly has some kind of mental issue where he’s trying to force Odell targets to keep him happy and involved. The statistics back this up.

stop making this an Odell vs Baker thing It’s not one or the other.

I don't think Baker has a mental issue targeting Odell. I think he has a processing issue overall.

Maybe it's because Baker is busy thinking instead of planting his feet correctly?

Baker does two things that shows me he's not even trying to survey the field. he pats the ball a few times and stares his guy down or he has his mind made up presnap that he's going to a specific receiver no matter what. Usually when he makes his mind up presnap it won't matter how his feet look because he's firing that thing.

OBJ catches almost everything catchable with almost no drops ever and catches uncatchable balls too....but the stats above show Baker has completed 79% of his throws year to date to everyone not named OBJ. Its weird, its Baker, not sure 100% why this is true other than Baker is trying to force OBJ the ball. We all know OBJ is dynamic with the ball and is YAC waiting to happen every time, that is true, but still amazing.

I mean it's just not an accurate assessment because the stats literally prove otherwise.

There is a reason that he's thrown more INT when targeting Odell and they are only completing 44% of his targets...

Baker has thrown an alarming number of INT overall too.

What Odell are you talking about? Because that sure hasn’t been the Odell we’ve seen in Cleveland

I feel like the legend of Odell is much greater than the actual play of Odell here

15-7 this year is pretty fucking good.

Baker has thrown an INT in 26 of his 37 career games. He throws an alarming number of picks.

Also 15-7 is not pretty fucking good lolololololololololol

Just gonna throw it out there, not meant to compare the 2 players, but front runner for MVP Russell Wilson has the same number of interceptions per game as Mayfield

I think 15-7 is pretty good

The Odell from NY is still in there. Last year he played with a sport hernia, slowed him down a couple of steps, this year we saw a glimpse in that one game how dynamic he really is, but Baker just isn't on the same page with him and that really is mainly Baker's fault. Give him a Tom Brady and OBJ would go back to the same dynamic receiver as in NY or even better....well not now obviously, but after he heals.

Eventually Baker might grow into having a true #1, but it seems to hamper him. Hey, we have 9 more games to find out, lets see what Baker looks like the rest of the way.

I don't disagree, but he also has 7 more TD's, a higher completion percentage and better rushing stats too. That said, Russ Wilson had similar numbers in his third year to Baker right now. And for the record, Baker is 9th in the league in QBR right now.
