Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@Los216 I'm curious how an injury to a QB's non-throwing shoulder could be career threatening. From everything I've read, the worst case scenario is that he worsens the fracture and he then needs surgery on the fracture as well as the labrum in the offseason.

Again, its his non-throwing shoulder.

I find it hard to believe Baker has truly recovered from this injury in just a week. The Baker we've seen since the interception against the Texans has not been good enough to advance in the Playoffs, if we're lucky enough to even get there.

Continuing to play him injured is a mistake. We have no chance winning a Super Bowl with an injured Baker. The Browns should let him rest until the injury has truly healed so we at least have a chance whenever he returns. Yes it would make winning over the next month or so very difficult, but it at least gives us a chance in the Playoffs. By rushing him back we're lowering our ceiling significantly.

That also happens to coincide with the injuries to the offensive line and loss of Jarvis Landry.

I'm going to be curious to see how Rodger's performance this weekend compares to his usual numbers.

Career threatening might be a little hyperbolic, but season ending sounds about right. If Baker takes another hard fall, the non-displaced fracture could easily become a displaced fracture, and then they have to open up his shoulder & start attaching plates to the bone to put things back in line.

In the last three games-- Pittsburgh has averaged 3.3 sacks a game and Cincy has averaged 2.7. Baker is going to get sacked if he plays. Hard to see how he manages to control his fall without dropping the football right now.

Baker isn't going to be fully healthy until his surgery. A fully torn labrum isn't going to heal itself.

So the choice is Case for the rest of the year or what Baker is going to give you with 1 1/2 arms.

Baker can play at close to 100% with a torn labrum in his non-throwing arm.

It's the fracture and soft tissue damage that are the problem right now.

The fracture is still going to be in danger because of the instability. As is soft tissue damage.

Sounds like Conklin may be back this week as well. I agree. If he feels like he can go. Let him go. Worst case scenario is he hurts himself long term (his health and decision). Best case scenario he shakes off the shit show from Arizona and with a healthy line and a healthy Jarvis we see the Baker that lead this team to their first playoff win in... what 25 years?

It's been 9 months.

If Baker goes out there and gets hurt on Sunday it will alter the course of his career.

I think the injury got in his head though, he wasnt the same QB after it happened as he was the first 2 games.

I understand why its hard to play the same with a torn labrum, pain and adjusting and all.

Everyone is really beating around the bush right now. Baker is not going to play better until he has surgery. If he has surgery at any point during the season his season is over.

If he tries to play through it and ends up getting hurt again not only is his season over but his status as the starting QB of The Browns going forward is up in the air.

It’s not more complicated than that. If the debate is between a fully healthy Case Keenum and an injured plus rattled Baker then the choice isn’t close. It’s Keenum.

Cut the tough guy shit. You broke a bone and it healed in 10 days on top of an already torn labrum? No it did not. He’s limited if he plays at all again this season no matter what.

I also think it’s funny how people were saying it’s just a torn labrum and it couldn’t get any worse. Well now he has a fracture. You don’t think playing with both these injuries now that he won’t be overcompensating? Haven’t people already been saying that his accuracy has been off because of the shoulder? So how can we reasonably expect his accuracy to improve at any point this season on a shoulder that cannot get better and can only get worse?
